I agree with your theory. I've seen my dogs do things that prove they can't certainly think and plan. Big hug for that Bennie!

Well it shows that Ben has a memory  that extends farther than one would imagine. Also he was prepared to finish his walk early to return to gain his prize. I just wonder what would have happened if he had been allowed to pick the ball up on the first viewing. Perhaps you would still be walking.

The good thing is the dog thought things over and arrived at a decision the professor couldn't make for once, LOLFor doggie not you teach.

Definitely some great evidence there that indicates that animals do think things over.

It must have been the storm that made Susie go so stupid yesterday and not stay out in it instead of going to the dry sun room....because none of these descriptions are sounding like her!!  Yes, it certainly sounds like Bennie had done some thinking.....or, it could have been a bit of both....perhaps he was unhappy about the storm, stopped to think about that, took you up on your offer, and being a man who wasn't about to forget about something he had seen he found appealing....stopped off to pick up the ball since the opportunity was right there....and he beat the storm!

Obviously he thought that through. Bennie is a remarkable doggie and part of the Blogit family. I never tire of stories of Bennie. I do believe that the more time we take with our animals and watch and listen to them, the more amazing their powers of thinking remembering and decision making is.

I promise never to swirl up a thunderstorm with the broom...Oh not for your benefit...for Bennie.

loved this post and it would seem bennie did change his mind about the ball.  dogs i think are smarter than humans and certainly are more loyal, compassionate, well, sometimes i think i like dogs better than humans.  and if i find a human that does not like dogs or animals, then i steer clear of them.

I love that smart dogie. I watched my father, a very patient man, train bird dogs and I think dogs are so very smart that people who own them often miss their real abilities.

Lucky for their humans, they do think it over. Otherwise I imagine

there'd be more runaways -not from wonderful guys like yourself - but families with kids have to be trained a bit.

I always found it interesting reading about animal studies in texts or books like

''The Human Animal.'' I also, like observing their behaviors, even chickens.
