I can close my eyes and see it. I'd forgotten about the scotch broom.
All along I-5, in the dividers between lanes, on the sides of right-of-way. I always liked them, but my older sis used to say they were dangerous in fire season because their pods and bark are so oily.

I bet it would not be knocked down here Ciel. I noticed a nuclear shelter has just been renovated into a prime kind of property.I like your descriptions of the greenery and it really is delicate at the start of spring. As you probably know we have been having a Spanish burst of warmth and it is lasting a bit longer according to the long range forecast.

One summer, driving in the woods on a warm day, I noticed how the different greens have different smells, too. Alder, fir, cedar, wildflower meadow...

I love when I notice the colours emerging in spring as I drive along. I once made an attempt to count the various shades of green, but simply gave up after a while - the road demanded some attention, LOL...
