I have to have at least two cups of coffee a day. If not, I get those headaches too, and I think they're caffeine-withdrawal. I don't think it affects my sleep at all, although I could never quit cold-turkey anyway! Sounds like you found a solution as it is . . .

TAPS, dear...
I'm really sorry that you're not feeling well! It seems to me the complete, cold turkey withdrawal wasn't a good idea! Why don't you just reduce your coffee intake gradually? I wonder how I would feel if I suddenly stopped drinking any scotch at all...

Annicita is right - it was caffeine withdrawal. I've been trhough it too. Like everything else, a lot of coffee can be too much of a good thing. Maybe try replacing every second cup you would drink with green tea instead. It was a pleasant surprise when I began drinking it with my Japanese DIL. Betcha that sleep felt great?!

Best wishes to both of you. I have recently cut down on coffee and try not to have
any after the mid-afternoon hours.

I do believe you've got it! I feel my tastebuds pucker at the thought of
straight unsweetened cranberry juice, but it's so good for us. And a little coffee is good, if only as a preventive against liver cancer...

Yes Taps some decaf coffee is quite good. I did read if one can believe it, that those who drank at least three cups had had a lower cholesterol level.Glad that you feel better.

TAPS
I used to drink about 40 cups of coffee per day when I was in high gear. About a year ago I got one of those coffee makers that makes a cup at a time and accidentally got some decaffeinated coffee which under normal circumstances I would not have drunk. I like good robust coffee. Well this coffee was good, I have not had caffeine since. I also drink about 4 cups per day of de-caff green tea. I rest better without caffeine.

Well, you're a retired nurse so I know you have access to all kinds of programs for stepping back on the stuff but Oz had what sounded like a good program for that and for insomnia in general fairly recently. I personally mix caff and de-caff tea as my tummy just doesn't take to coffee well at all anymore so I rarely have it. My problem with insomnia when I have it is shutting off the mind and love a comment someone put in an old post I was just reading earlier today - something about insomnia actually being therapy because it was when thoughts that were always "lurking" in her mind had a chance to finally get into her busy, busy mind....I just loved that.

because i have chronic sever reflux the specialist said, "No this that or the other, including coffee." Well I refuse to give up that morning cup but no more through the day so maybe that is an idea for you. i don't think one cup in 24 hrs can do too much harm.
