Re: Re: Re:

The ol' "buddy system," eh, Kabu? Well, whatever it takes to get these speeders off the roads. What amazes us sometimes is that, a few years ago, the speed limit on the Parkway and Turnpike was raised from 55 mph to 65 mph. And yet, that's not fast enough for some people, who still insist on doing 80! What the heck is their hurry . . . ?

Re: Re:

the ones I was mentioning are permanently installed so when I go back to Aussie land, I know where they are...but we have by the road side radar too and if you flash by them and their is other traffic, they call ahead for another car to stop you.

Re:

True, C C T, true! It would be one thing if there was some kind of guarantee that, if you drink and drive, or get distracted using your cell phone, and crash into something, that you would be the only one getting hurt! But everyone is in danger on the roadways when these things occur! I hope they catch a bundle this weekend . . .

Re:

Well, Kabu, we have officers who set up those radar points as well. Ironically though, we still see people going well over the speed limit, sometimes shooting right past these cops, but we rarely see anyone actually being pulled over! Perhaps those officers use that position to catch up on their sleep . . .

Re: JimmyA

I here ya, Sir Wiley! It's safe then to assume that these checkpoints wouldn't affect you at all either, other than the inconvenience of being temporarily detained. That's what my wife and I hope to avoid . . .

Re:

Is that an 'inside joke,' Inside? I take it the bulk of the people in Georgia are none too pleased with some of their politicians and school officials. Unfortunately, the jails here in New Jersey are overcrowded as it is. You might have to take these jokers back . . .

Re:

And they probably shouldn't, FSI. The element of surprise is usually to their advantage. I've always said, if you want to grab a bottle of vodka and a 12-pack, and sit in your own home getting plastered, fine! Just don't go out on the road and put my life in danger . . .

Re: Jimmy

I'm sure it is, Naut, but the irony remains. I've lived here all my life, and the state police have never done this before. They've always relied on the element of surprise. In fact, these roadblocks are usually set up in an area so that, even if you do spot it down the road, there's no where to go. You must stop! Hey, one way or the other, if it works . . .

Re:

Oddly enough, lustor, that's my whole point! The state police here in New Jersey never advertise ahead of time about these checkpoints and roadblocks! Perhaps they are trying to give people a chance to think before they drink . . .

Yes there are always some who believe the will not get caught Jimmy. The same as those using mobiles, one can still see them at times. No good crying afterwards a car is a lethal weapon in the wrong hands and should be treated as such.

we have permanent radar set up in certain places on some highways and they warn you the speed to do and exactly where the radar is. This is in Australia...seems a bit pointless to me.

The OPP does that here and after 47 years sober I am always grateful for my sobriety.

I hope, but probably not, that some of the School officials and Politicians in GA will be vacationing in the area.  There they probably won't be let go.

It is amazing how dumb some people are. I have a feeling that there will be a fair amount of people getting arrested this weekend...In our television ads, the Maryland State Police say that they are setting up more sobriety checkpoints. They do no say, however, when they will occur.

On the other hand: If the advance warning keeps some of the drinking drivers off the road, and I'm sure it does, it can be regarded as a positive...
