I don't have any problem with guns, if you're sure you would use it.  If you're not, a good form of protection is a can of hornet spray.....it has a long range spray that is a good deterrant so you can get away and most can be adjusted for a wide enough spray to be able to hit your target without getting too close.  You can safely keep several cans around, especially next to your bed.

Some of your best writers were loners. And some probably had a six shooter.

Re: ipp
I got my first gun because of my divorce. My neighbor, a deputy sheriff and my best friends husband advised me to. He actually bought it and gave it to me. My attorney and the judge felt it was in my best interest and 27 days after my husband asked for a divorce it was granted. They take me to the gun range and I am very comfortable shooting and enjoy it. But what gives me a feeling of comfort and security is my dog Lucy.

The only thing I have ever shot was a bebe gun.  But I have had two people offer to me antique guns.  I plan to accept when I am in a more stable situation.  The worse thing to own in an abusive situation is a gun.  With my decline in health, 1: I don't feel like I could physically defend myself anymore.  2: The most deadly time in an  abusive is the following 90 days.  I just feel more vulnerable than I have ever felt in my life.  Like I said, I am and was kinda a tomboy, nobody ever messed with me.  Now its like I just look like a target for the stronger.  Or at least I think I could have kicked some A in the past.  Never have done it.

I try not to think violent thoughts,  some confuse my kindness for weakness and maybe a gun will replace my physical abilities.

Re: jimmy

i agree it would be a better world if guns had never been invented.  and i could never shoot anything again, let alone a human.  but it is the people behind the guns that kill, a gun does not decide or can it shoot itself.  if not for guns people could not have settled the frontier, guns were a means to feed themselves and also to protect themselves.

Well, it certainly doesn't hurt to have a story like that attached to your gun. Personally, however, I hate guns, simply because they only serve one purpose: to kill! I could never shoot another person, let alone a rabbit . . . !

It is interesting reading about your history with guns.
