Re: adnohr,

Your writing never brings me up short, I am always so engaged with what you are saying.

Re: Kabu,

You are Queen of the Playground, and have a special pass to do whatever you like! I would read you because you are you!

Re: FormerStudentIntern,

I use them mostly to indicate a thought trailing off or a list left incomplete, or a pause in speech... for which -- is actually usually a better choice.

Re: Pat,

I tip my hat to everyone who takes the time to edit before offering their writing, here or anywhere!  It is a courtesy to readers that not all bother with in this setting or other writing playgrounds online.

It is easier for me, so much of this somehow came natural to me, except for the commas (I use too many and have to edit about a third of them out.  Maybe half.) and ellipses.

But the correct use of I/me, or that simple little comma between, say, what you are saying and the person to whom you are saying it, these are so easy to get right! Sure, you have to develop a habit, and that takes at least a brief time of conscious intent, but then sheer laziness doesn't come into it, it is a simple as any automatic thing one already does, like put a period at the end of a sentence.

Re: Krisles,

That's gonna be such a fun corner!

Blogit is a playground, where we relax and play here, which is exactly what it's all about.  I post stuff like this for those who want to maybe go into the world of published writing and readers who aren't also friends and neighbors.

As for your posts, Krisles, they have never yet brought me up short trying to understand what you meant, nor set my teeth on edge for some repetitive error, nor jerked my senses around with, say, an overabundance of !!! The music is always just fine!

I'm afraid I'll just live in the corner.  I know you are right...would you believe I was once a grammar Nazi, an English major at one time....but after a lifetime of nothing but writing formally at work, I write now purely for therapy.  I don't (obviously!) work on my posts, and other than tweaking any poetry I occasionally play with, I really just enjoy talking with my fingers - I do hate it when I miss typos as I am still a spelling nut so I do understand it is probably like listening to off-key music for you when you read me.  That makes it extra special when you do.

Okay. I'm going to sit with Kabu in the corner.

I remember when ellipses were often used during telephone conversations when the writer did not want one person's words to be heard. It has been awhile since I have seen it done.

Thanks for the reminder. These are exactly the things I edit out

when I'm in the role of vampire grammarian.
