I really don't know if I'm fortunate or unfortunate, but I never met my 'mother-in-law' ( she passed away almost 10 years before my wife and I starting dating ). But you're right . . . constantly equating things to a man/woman issue doesn't help or solve anything, because, regardless of the stereotyping, everyone is different! But, having those kinds of ideals drilled into your head over and over and over has got to take its toll eventually . . .

I suppose unless one is subordinate there are bound to be differences. No woman is ever good enough for another woman's son.

That's a Mama in law with a squeeze of lemon. Basically he's still her chick and no matter the behaviour he will always be excused in her eyes. Well of course all mothers adore their children but she's over the top with the gender excuse. Sheesh.
