I have learned from my past, or else I would be totally a basketcase. One thing I have learned is that stress will kill.

we all have those painful memories...sometimes we have to store them away for another day to figure out the lesson, motives etc...

Hmmmm. I remember reading this right after you wrote it, but it looks like I failed to comment. It must have been the middle of the night.

So often, what we find most irritating in others is, in fact,
something we do ourselves. I agree that it is essential to stand back and take as fair a look at one's own self as possible, now and then, to be aware, to be insightful. But it is possible to way overdo it, or to look at yourself through critical filters that are based on beliefs, assumptions, unexamined 'truths' which totally skew what you see and how you judge it.
For instance, as a kid, I tore myself up, shining hot lights on every improper, unworthy motive I had for doing every little thing I chose to do... Until, finally, I realized that no action or choice ever has only one motive, and some of the motives will always be less admirable than others.
We must learn, foremost, to be fair with ourselves, and kind, too.

I feel the same way as you do, Krisles. Important it is to remember to be able to reflect and to thus learn from those past events.

I gave up saying I would never do that after I found I actually did do that..Sigh!! Now as age creeps up on me I have faced my failings, said my I am sorrys and am at the stage of working on forgiving myself. Now that's a tough one....but I am progressing.

This is such an excellent post. As I have aged I do a lot of examination. I often wonder why in the world did I do that or do it that way. I am a Christian and I believe I have to forgive all who have wronged me, perceived or real. I find I am looking back closer now than in the past.
