Re: Kabu

Yes, I know other countries do and sorry if I inferred otherwise....just that too many countries we hear about seem too rigid in class (I hate that word but don't know another and it would soon seem awful, too!) divisions.  We've just as societies been too willing to accept too little as a common denominator IMHO...it's lowered the bar for everyone.

I don't really know. ...except that the USA is not the only society where sections of society move freely between the so called classes. I am Australian and Canadian...both very free societies. But within my family and Wiley's family, the grandchildren have all been encouraged to better educate, to higher moral standing, to keep too busy with sport , academia and music and arts so that they are imroving the family not dragging it down. So I believe that across the World you are probably right and it is probably a lot to do with social media....

Re: Standards

I think you are right about communication being a root cause......I know many people think I'm crazy, especially those to remember any other way of life, but I often rant that the decline of modern civilization all started with call waiting.  I was dealing with the public on the phone at the time and I watched it develop.  The whole concept of having to have instant communication, can't miss anything, have to be instantly available, etc., all of that started with call waiting......I hated it from the start and, quite frankly, it was only people who sounded like they weren't very well-educated who had to in the early days.  I always refused to hold for people....I told them to call me back when they could talk to me.  Yep, I've always had a bitch streak about the rudeness of that crap!

I feel that the middle class is disappearing as well because of standards eroding. I feel a lot of it has to do with how communication has changed. While it has improved, society was not prepared for how addicted it would become to it. I see people posting things online that they would never have otherwise have admitted to or would not have had the visual being seen by so many people.
