My friends make wine, and it's quite good. Saves them a mint, I guess, because most of their visitors enjoy the drink. I hope another wayward cat will show up and adopt you one day. ANd I'm interested tooo - why was he buying meat from the pet counter? Poem is lovely, and like Jeansaw, I have a long memory too.

Thank you K. that was a compliment. Yes it does not take a lot of vinegar flies to turn wine into something undrinkable and believe me in the olden days one was sometimes given that to drink. As the provider might casually say.'I don't drink myself ,but it is a shame to waste it.

Your poem takes my breath away with it's beauty, grace and sensitivity.....and wise words at the ending just tossed on there, to tie it all up. When you focus your muse, you are so good.
I have a memory of a guy I went out with when I was in college.....a summer night, he's showing me all this equipment in the garage of the house he and a couple of guys are renting....it's wine making equipment....the smell in that garage is overwhelming. I don't remember the details other than, for some reason, things had gone wrong and that night they dumped all that stuff down the drive-way of that house and it went running down the street. The smell was strong in the night....Austin is very humid in the summer.

Re: Naut

OH dear you should have given the reds to those you did not like. I expect they would have been OK for slug traps. The things we had to do ,in the old days. You must have been efficient with the white wines, Glad you liked the poem, ladies do not like men peeking into their dreamworld, I can say that because I know that no one will read this unless it is someone whose name begins with K.

I still think one one need a good vessel to make moonshine Pat. My brother used to test it by lighting the fluid as it dripped from the still. Cider yes, but a lot of work scrunching up the apples perhaps they had a press of some kind. All a bit too raking for me these days.

Re: Kabu
I don't think it is the alcohol as much as the unfermented yeast in most occasions that makes one feel extra whoozy . Grapes ferment very quickly but some vegetable wine lingers on. No never been there, might have passed through years ago as the roads as you know used to go through towns and cities.

Re: Jimmy
Perhaps that is why he is so particular these days Jimmy. Yes It is a not a nice feeling to see the empty basket, but as you know pets are quite a responsibility so I gave all the things suitable to the Animal Sanctuary. The grapefruit wine was always as sweet as honey perhaps that was why it was a favorite.

Re: Jeansaw
Good for you Jean you can trust me because I am a wizard. Obviously Benny allowed the vinegar fly to mess with his wine. Believe me I have had to drink some terrible wine and smile and say lovely. Start swinging that arm I have an old fashion set of quoits somewhere they are about three times as heavy as shoes we used to toss them once.

well, i like a drink now and then, some wines are ok, sometimes beer. my dil makes wine and quite good. blueberry, rasberry etc. my neighbor, benny tried making wine and it tasted like vinegar, lol, used it for cooking. he never gave me another bottle because i was honest and told him i couldnt drink it.
i remember every animal i ever owned and sometimes miss something about them. lucy is my only pet right now, we do alot of playing fetch. getting ready for my pitching career, lol.
liked the poem, would never be me, because i do remember how men are.

I've never tried to make home-made wine myself, but I know plenty who have. Some were more successful than others. And I've never heard of using grapefruit to make wine. Seems like it might be a bit too tart. Yes, I understand that 'emptiness' of not seeing that cat. It is sad. And I don't think I even want to know why Archie was getting meat from a pet store . . .

I used to make wine - both reds and whites! The reds were ghastly! I sacrificed them to the Great God Pan - sprinkled them on my cedars on hot summer afternoons. That also eliminated some nasty bugs, LOL..Some of my whites were quite good though! I slapped fancy labels on the bottles and some of my friends thought they were store-bought, LOL...And as always, I love your poem...

Those home made wines can give one a terrible hangover. My dear friend in the UK used to make beautiful wines and she had me taste test them one night....I have no idea of the end of the night. Next day I was very delicate....so many wonderful memories...Thank you for reminding me. Did you ever visit Ludlow????

I remember when aunts and uncles used to make hard cider during
apple harvest season, and there was talk of moonshine whiskey, although it was hard to come by the copper vessels and piping during the war years. I expect much more is possible in the age of cheap and widely available plastic.
