A great post! It brought back memories for a few of us, I see.

Remembering the 'olden days' fondly and looking with mild disdain on the ones 'from away' appears to be a more or less universal phenomenon! And I too have never thought of MacD's or Burger King as an improvement of any cityscape...

I used laundromats in my day, during divorce time a bit and when Kabu goes away to Australia I take my laundry in and let the ladies there do it for a price.

You said the key word, ''wannabe''--they sound pretentious to me.

My wife and I sometimes have to go to a nearby laundry mat whenever we have huge blankets and comforters to wash. We're afraid our somewhat old washer may not be able to handle the extra weight! However, the client-el of this particular laundry mat are not colorful or exciting at all! I don't think I would bother to write anything about them . . .

I so enjoyed this write. Brought back memories of taking my wash to the laundromat when I lived in the double decker Bus...LOL. i too had to wait to get the car so it was often a Sunday....Mum and two busy little boys could empty anywhere pretty quick, including a laundromat

I am so thankfulf or my stackable washer and dryer...I hear that laundromats are on the decline these days because of washers and dryers being available at home.

OMG! I've never seen people dressed up at a laundrymat!! I never had to go one regularly because the buildings I lived in usually had them womewhere on the premises...but, I've sure been to enough through the decades....in enough "venues"....and in enough spots in my life.... to have had some adventures! This writing prompt is something like the grandparent books I have and try to write in periodically for my three grandcandies....they are each a little different but they all have pages with questions at the top that prompt you to remember specific events or times; one of the books has somewhat whimsical prompts that are really fun.

I expect they did dress for the occasion Pat. Probably slobbering around now in a turban and half a glass of gin as the washing machine churns endlessly on.

Laundromat prompts...
What is the funniest/strangest thing you have ever seen someone wearing, coming into a laundromat?
