Reminds me of the story of the turkey...
Family raised it through the summer and fall for their Thanksgiving feast... Then when Mom was abandoned on The Day, she had to do the dastardly deed... She twisted it's neck, no doubt weeping and feeling dreadful the whole time, then she plucked the dead bird and set it in the fridge.
Someone opened the fridge later, and a mad, mad turkey hopped out.
They didn't eat it. Mom knit it a sweater.
That's the story I heard.
