Re:

You're absolutely right, Annicita. The religion itself is immaterial. It's the radical ideology that, in the end, dooms us all! Regardless of who condemns what, there is still a vast enemy out there right now that we must all contend with . . .

I don't know the person personally but I do know that many Muslims have condemned and disagree with much of what the radicals do to "further their cause".  We can say the same about radicals in any religion - look at christianity which snuffed out milions over millenia with the inquisition, the crusades etc....

Too often those easily swayed through lack of education or skewed education are recruited and become zealots.  The religion doesn't matter.  Sometimes circumstances as well make it easy to recruit.  We only need to look at the middle east to see how that works.

Re:

Perhaps, C C T, and that's what's so difficult to properly decipher! His true intentions would probably be better received if he had spoken those words and sentiments to someone rather than just write a letter! I really don't know either . . .

Re:

It's okay, Kabu. Those are indeed two very good questions! And I can answer both with one word: Liberalism. Many years ago, when the concept of "Bring us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses" was still fresh in America, people took pride in coming here and making a life for themselves. That's when our population was only at around 40 or 50 million. Now we have close to 300 million people here, and you know what happens when too many people get too crowded. Like you said, certain elements should not have been mixed! And of course, we can't start suddenly kicking people out. Believe me, we've been trying with the over-influx of illegal immigrants from Mexico and a few South American countries. Instead, Obama wants to make a good portion of them citizens! We have no room or jobs left! We're full! But, we shouldn't be discussing politics, now should we . . . ?

Re: JimmyA

Really, Sir Wiley? You think that's what it will come to? Well, you may be right, because as of now, I don't really recall any of these types of attacks happening in Russia proper . . . yet. Perhaps these terrorists will finally 'cross that line' and trigger something explosive ( no pun intended ) . . .

Re:

That's very true, FSI. The written word and the spoken word do not carry the same weight! It would have been interesting to have seen him speak these words. It may have given us an even better insight to his actual feelings . . .

Re:

You may be right, chuck. That's certainly one way to look at it. If that is indeed true, however, then it's really up to the rest of those peace-loving Muslims to finally take a stand in some form against these radicals . . .

Re: Jimmy

I suppose, Naut, I just handed you a can of worms to open and scrutinize. We like to give people the benefit of the doubt, and we certainly can in this particular case. BUT, I still have that 'other side' to constantly consider because, as I wrote to Pat, it's that trust issue again getting in the way of my thinking . . .

Re: Having known muslim people who worked with me in several places,

I have to agree, Pat. I know the general consensus could be, there's good and bad everywhere. And of course that's true. But I'm tellin' ya, it's getting scarier and scarier out there, not unlike a plague! I think people's 'trusts' are starting to wane, and I shudder to think what it may eventually lead to . . .

I really don't know Jimmy, Perhaps he is doing his best to protect those who are innocent.

I do know that in my Sydney Australia that Muslims especially women get bullied by other Australians....yet at the same time I myself was bullied by two Muslim men some years ago when I had my two Granddaughters with me. They were just really little girls then and I just got them home to safety as quick as possible...So...I don't have any answers only a question...why did the powers that be ever think that Multiculturalism could work when centuries of wars have shown it don't. and why when our countries had wonderful Jewish communities established over centuries did the powers that be think that by bringing in their biggest enemies that it could work???? OOps that is two questions and I don't discuss politics or religion....

Islam is being used by an evil organiztion and think Hitler had the right idea. Of course they are mentally ill as was he and Naziism and will be exterminated by a leader with intestinal fortitude to use Nukes, like Vladimir Putin.

Without hearing him speak his words, it is tough to be 100% sure either way, and even then, a good actor can fake emotions. Until otherwise shown, I believe that he is sincere.

I believe that the Muslim religion is being hijacked by radicals.

An interesting post and an interesting letter! It deserves more than a brief comment, which is why I shall devote a post to it, though not at this moment.

Just a few words about the writer’s sincerity: he may be, but, unlike our Pat ,I certainly can’t be sure based on what he writes! There’s that strange ‘We’, the implied claim to speak for all Muslims, and then there’s that quote…But I’ll get back to all that…

Having known muslim people who worked with me in several places,

I believe those like this writer are sincere. They suffer blowback from 'infidels' who hate and fear all things muslim because of the terrorist Islamists. I believe 90% of all people are well-meaning and show respect to other traditions than their own. But the other 10% can be dangerous in their irrational bigotry.
