I sit here after a large snow fall with ice rain continuing on into the day and a promise of a deep plummet of temperature coming and I have no idea how 200 years ago any one survived without powered heating and the Supermarket and a heated car....let alone modern and available medical care. I look to all our pioneer ancestors and admire their courage and tenacity and 80 was an amazing age to live under any circumstances 200 years ago.
much enjoyed and would love more.

Pat
It would be interesting to examine whether the changes from a world of largely agrarian societies to a (partly) industrial one was more or less profound than the later changes to a (partly) post-industrial world, nuclear power, space travel and instant communication. A world that is still (partly) in the thrall of profoundly irrational ideologies...

I was only thinking today how rapidly things change. I was a young conscript on guard
duty and a pumping system broke down/ I reported it to the Adjutant and he told me
to find a bycycle and cycle three miles to the engineers house to tell him of the failure.
