Your post made me smile! And it also motivated me. I need to do the same and was thinking of that tonight before coming on Blogit. Thank you!

Well I don't like walking Taps. I wish I did but I suppose going up and down the stairs a good many times must count for something. I have a lovely little walking stick that belonged to an elderly lady, but I cut myself a thick stick from a cherry tree a kind of staff useful for defense purposes.

Re: Pat_B
I have found that nothing works, unless I work. Even when I am winter-weather bound and cold outside, I find some kind of workout to do for exercise, even when I'm in my recliner and watching TV.

Re: BC-A
I don't think I have any of that, but in our closet of things we never use is a couple of old woolen Army blankets. I guess I could wear one like a cape. LOL

Re: Naut
I tried it out in our hallway back and forth today and racked up over 200 steps really quickly. LOL.

Re: Nauticos
You would look very dapper with a top hat and cane and walking Bennie. You could doff your hat at every lady and do a little toe tapping dance.

Re: Kabu
I have always loved to see people with canes...it is so sophistocated looking. I loved it when Fred Astaire danced with his cane. I had a sweet lady friend who ambulated with a bad leg and a cane until she was well over a hundred.

Re: You go
I'm so sorry that you have those things to deal with. I guess pain is a part of life, but it surely isn't any fun.

You go
I am having to comtemplate an achilles repair and having my knee injected with rooster comb. I don't know if the ankle causes the knee pain or the knee pain causes the ankle pain. I am trying to avoid both with Healing Touch but no luck yet. I guess western intervention will have to be done.

i do know that when Wiley is using his cane in Town people are way way more courtious and patient than if we are both just walking along without it.

Excellent ideas - both the walking stick and the pedometer. I don't need much motivation to walk - Bennie is motivation enough, and he certainly reminds me if I should forget! But I got an additional impetus a few days ago - I downloaded something called 'Google Fit' to my smartphone, which I carry in my pocket at all times. It doesn't cost anything, and turns out to be extremely accurate in measuring the duration of my walk and also counts the number of steps I've taken. (It counts the steps walking around the house as well.)
Yesterday: duration - 1hr, 9min; steps - 12362. Today, so far: duration - 44min; steps - 7291. But there's one more walkies with Bennie coming...
With this thing, and knowing myself, I'll probably get ambitious...

That walking stick alone would give me some motivation!
Have you spoken to your doc about that dizziness? My dad had that going on for a while, and his doc decided to check it out, and it was blockage built up in the carotid artery cutting blood flow to the brain. He got it fixed before anything drastic happened. He was in his mid or late 70s at the time.

Whatever works, Taps. I find my chair just too darn tempting,
even though I know sitting will make an old woman of me unless I balance chair time with ambulatory time... Have fun with your new toy... :)
