I agree as well. That's why I'm so grateful my cable system carries Turner Movie Classics. There are literally hundreds of old black & white movies my wife and I haven't seen yet, that are far superior to anything made today! We have not gone to the theater in years . . .

Wondering if the movie was so bad Sony hacked themselves as a publicity stunt and now it could create a situation I don't even want to begin to imagine.

We have just got Netflix and there is not one good modern movie worth sitting through.

Pat I suppose a lot of things boil down to profit. I vaguely remember as a child singing a a ditty. I think it was we will hang out the washing on the Siegfried Line. Probably spelled differently but I was told by another child that it was illegible to sing it as the line had not been taken. We had in fact lost our line.

Re: Re: Nautikos - parody of evil is good...

Well, I haven't seen the movie, so I can't possibly decide whether it was 'just parody' or 'a poke in the soft underbelly' of that disgusting tub o'lard! Either way, I don't care - it's about time that 'we' (at least some of us) spoke up! In my view, showing fear will inevitably lead to worse! How far does this have to go until we're finally forced to say enough is enough? But I do understand your position as well, even if I don't agree with it!

So lets just agree to disagree...

Re: Nautikos - parody of evil is good...

I love you, Darling, and agree that parody of evil dictators good and even necessary. But this was not just parody, it was a deliberate poke in the soft underbelly of an armed bully and daring him to take a shot at us. Ask for trouble, and it will come.

NK might have pulled a cyber hack of a U.S. corporation even without provocation - seems likely they may be working on at least one more. This ain't over.

Pat

I agree with you on the quality of today's movie fare, which appeals to both males and  females of the demographic cohort you mention in roughly equal numbers, plus many others of questionable taste.

But I totally disagree with your view that vile dictators with funny haircuts must not be parodied! As an admirer of Charlie Chaplin and his movie 'The Great Dictator', the parody of a vile dictator with a funny mustache, I insist that parody of evil is good, necessary, and clearly effective, as the reaction demonstrates!

History demonstrates that appeasement never works - it didn't work in the thirties, it won't work now. It's not working in the case of the vile dictator with the funny haircut (who has threatened mor cyber attacks), nor is it working in the case of that vile ideology, the 'divinely ordained Naziism' I've been writing about for some time now!

I hope the movie will be shown, and if that happens I shall definitely go and watch it, and I won't care that it most likely won't come up Charlie Chaplin's standards...
