A great side benefit for me of a career spent in claims......spending my day talking to people profoundly changed from one moment to the next, gave me a very firm grip early in life on the facts of life - now.
Beautifully written post.....I felt the loss.

Poor lady, good to know she has kin and friends. Reality hits us at times, I guess the experience is universal.

It's always a shock when the 'web of normalcy' is suddenly torn by the death of someone close by, even if it wasn't a close friend...

For those left behind, yes, sudden loss is hard. Disease is terrible, but it gives one time to say goodbye. Whether it be from one or the other, your last sentence stands true. Every smile or laugh is to be appreciated.
