I went to the site and just finished reading Charlie's piece (very good, by the way) and got totally booted off...then couldn't get back into Blogit or any of my sites until I shut my computer off and back on again. Weird! This is a new computer too...finally put the tablette back on the shelf...and it scared the heck out of me, thinking virus again! Fortunately the off/on worked and I'm back. Sounds like a dream job - I have often thought I would like to get paid for reading. Writing reviews is another thing however...

A lot of the trouble is Ciel most of it has been done before Amazon probably appeases the latent desire to see one's book in print. Great covers on most books, cheap enough to read and forget, a bit sad really. Of course once there was no competition, it was easier to enthrall those who could read, with experiences they had never dreamed of. Tell me a unknown one if you like. Charlie puts a lot of effort into his work, nice to be young.

Re: Annicita,

Not that I am aware of. Do you have them on offer through Amazon?

Oh wow!  I didn't know that you did that...I wonder if you have read any of mine?

A professional editor is the way to go.

Re: Pat,

And, yet, there are talented, skilled writers who choose to self-publish because mainstream publishers offer less and less, and still take the lion's share of any profits. My job with Today's Visions/Hot Reads is to find those and promote them.

I am asked to provide at least one review per week, and sometimes I have to struggle over the best I find, because it isn't really to the standards I would want it to be. I do have to factor in, though, that I am a very picky reader, and most readers are not that particular.

You have it exactly right about indie books. I found one on the shelf

at the library's used bookshop on Sunday, apparently this writer's third - it was well promoted on the cover, nice professional author photo/bio, but the writing didn't come up to the promise. It might have been helped by an editor as you describe... :)

Re: Kabu,

I hope you are soaking up enough summer to last through the winter!  I'm looking forward to your return!
