Yeah, I can see how finding a bug ( any kind of bug ) in your food would put you off for a spell, whether it was fish or a salad! I think we've all been in that situation at least once! We really don't have any of those type of small, family-owned shops in our area. But as you head somewhat south and west toward the farmlands, a few spring up here and there. People do like that simple, cozy, laid-back atmosphere a bit more than going into the huge, impersonal chain stores . . .

I do not long for the olden days, when you got warm at a wood fire

toasted one side and froze the other at the same time. Reading your story of the poor guy ekeing out his comfort, I am grateful for a gas-fired furnace and thermostat.

Re: Taps

Well I grew peppers this year and was surprised to find ocassional slugs had bored into them. The worst was a mango I bought and it had a large caterpillar inside. I love mango chutney though.

I think it's going to be a long, cold winter.
Back to the bug in the fish--Not long ago, I bought a large green bell pepper.  When I got it home and was preparing it for chopping, I found a large spider in the bottom indentation all fastened in there with a web.  It was very much alive and scared me to death.

Haha! Love the poem - a giggle it is! I like eating fish...at least I used to. What bugs?

I remember my Anatomy and Physiology teacher back in high school talking about how we were adapted to eat so much because our ancestors did not know when the next meal would come...Each stanza jumps out at me.
