Yes Jean not much around at the moment , I did notice a lot of celandines poking through they are quite nice if one has an odd bit of ground, but very invasive. Perhaps I will give them a drop of Round up. A good idea really with the bins, but I don't know how a large family would cope unless they have a couple.

Re: A sad and wistful poem...
Yes Ciel , Mother came from a large family the result obviously drained her poor Mother's health. The children had to just fend for themselves. People were so poor in the villages, but did sometimes share what little they had.

Yes I think a lot of Nannying is being out-priced Naut. Not much use going to work if the proceeds are needed to cover other expences. You must know someone on the council, they do seem to be mostly young girls.

Re: I think the poem is wonderful as a "shoe on the other foot" companion
Well I suppose money buys comradship for little children Pat, if one earns enough and can afford a Nannie. Not quite like Mum, athough we could have pinched her at times.

Hear you have been away, I expect we will all get the boot one day. I did plant an Acer near the back window , I hope it will not become a problem.

Well, at least you didn't have to cut down . . . or plant . . . all those elms yourself! And you're right; the location of trees that grow very tall is important to the surrounding foliage. Spacial relations are more important than people think. Keep getting that exercise . . .

to some of my early ones about how tough it is to be a working mom with never enough time for just being with the children. Poor little guy, so alone in his sheltered world. Interesting to think of all the forestry that must be done, even on the cusp of winter.

You're sure keeping busy! And dealing with the council is often an exercise in futiliy, although I had a very pleasant experience recently. Having complained about the disappearance of a particular trash basket in our park, it reappeared again a couple of days later! And of course I called them and thanked them for acting so quickly - one has to reinforce such things, LOL...
And the poem is excellent! Of course the future is here - it's just that the Nannies are missing in most cases...

A sad and wistful poem...
I have a book around here somewhere called THE HISTORY OF CHILDHOOD. It is really astonishing how various cultures cling to ideas of what's the best way to raise a child. It is so simple, really: nurture with love, let them cling for the first few years, let them sleep beside Mum and go with her where she goes. But that is so inconvenient for mothers with other work to do.

beautiful flower, we have been having some cold weather and all my flowers are suffering, but it is that time of year i suppose.
they sell oak as fire wood here, where they find it all i do not know as when i drive around i do not see many oak. the forests here are all paper mill pines, not to good for burning. i do have a few pieces of oak left to burn, it is good that i got a new heater in the house as they are predicting a long cold winter here.
our trucks pick up the trash, yard or otherwise, and if our bin weighs more than 50 lbs the truck cannot lift it and they leave it. so you cannot overload the bin here. so i am sure to put it out every week as i am throwing alot away right now. i have three boxes, keep, give away and throw away and some of the keep will be sold.
