Re: Kabu,
Well, today's the day and by tomorrow we will have a pretty good idea what's going to be happening in the next 2 years. I've heard the opinion that for the majority of Americans, things are going to be getting pretty dismal, but the richest folks should be happy. I never understand how so many people can be so taken in by such blatantly greedy, self-serving candidates.
But I also believe in surprises.

Re: JimmyA,
I consider politicians of either major party to be beyond reach. It is the average citizen who can exercise common sense and critical thinking, and vote outside the plans of the politicians who generally seem to count on us to be lazy and to hand off the thinking to them.
I have heard it attributed to Churchill but also to others: When you consider who votes, democracy is the worst political system in the world, except for all the others.

Your sentiments are wonderful, but I'm afraid they may be lost on politicians, Democrat or Republican. Those are things an average citizen may consider, but once they are elected to office, their primary focus is to then get re-elected and stay in power. Thinking of the difference between Democrats and Republicans reminds me of an old joke about the difference between Communists and Capitolists. Under Communism, Man exploits Man. But under Capitolism, it's the other way around! Gotta love politics . . .

for me this is an excellent post. I don't write my opinion of american politics because I am an alien but your arguments for balnace and compromise are sensible for any community. Otherwise if everone demands their way is the only way one starts to see anarchy overtake ...like I adore Greece but could never live there.LOl

Here is to hoping that compromise reigns in Washington.
