Great post. Too many people just take animals for granted, never realizing just how special they really are.

Graysome has different voices for different commands that he gives me...AND his swearing is just terrible. He also has the stretch, just as the big cats do for each other, he gives us a stretch to please us, to say hi for a pet and even as a trick for his Supper.

Yes I like most dogs Naut ,but if a dog takes a dislike to you, I don't think a meaty bone will make it change its mind. A nice dog will let one take food from its eating bowl whilst eating, well mine did.

One can tell a lot from the barking of a dog.

Good start to this series! Yes, I believe the examples from Mr. Silver's book primarily covered posturing, body language, movements and eye contact, but didn't mention vocalization, although I would assume he covers it somewhere else in his book. The pitch and tone of those woofs and barks, as well as the frequency, can speak volumes as well ( no pun intended ). People just have to learn to listen and understand, as I'm sure you have by now, especially with a doggie like Bennie . . .

Oh I love this post. Our cat Buddy is a lot this way he has a totally different meow when he is looking for George. I love the communications between people and cats and dogs. I grew up with a father who only allowed me limited play time with out dogs because he trained them to hunt and he was good at that. They were so very expressive.
