Great post
My health insurance (monthly HMO) has gone through the roof. I don't smoke, don't drive, don't own a car and never did. I have a healthy life style. Not overweight. I don't get any "good points" for any of this. But God forbid if I ever have to go to the doctor or actually do get sick, I'm sure the rates will double on me, yet I'm afraid to cancel the insurance, figuring the day I do I'll get hit by a car while crossing the street and need tons of surgery and we know what they charge for SURGERY! There's no escape. We're held hostage by the insurance companies.

Not only that...
it seems a claim that arose from a parking lot incident has caused my wife to incure traffic violation points through the DMV even though no law enforcemnt was involved!  We're still sorting that out.

I have been bitching about the exact same thing lately!  My biggest complaint though is the fact that they review your credit report and charge you according to that for auto insurance.  I have been divorced, my ex-husband royally f*cked my credit up and therefore, I now have to pay about double what I should for car insurance.  Insurance is not something that I am financing.  They can cancel my policy at any time for non-payment, but they still quote you a rate based on your credit score.  It makes no sense to me.  They say that people with bad credit are "at-risk drivers", but that is complete bullshit.  I have NOTHING on my record.  Ugh.  Sorry for writing so much about this, but your entry hit a nerve with me.  :-)
