Re: A

Well I am, not going to try to eat it A. I shall offer it to the birds . Next time though it will rise like a balloon, I should have folded the flour in.

Re: jeansaw

Well Jean a good many folk here take money from their house as a kind of backward mortgage but I suppose one has to pay it off first. I thought a lot of walnuts come from California but I suppose they do not come cheaper to you. Anyway if you have a house you can always let someone decent rent part and they do increase in value. Believe it or not in 1970 we had a three bed built double brick etc for 4 thousand. My dads first bungalow cost two  hundred pounds. I suppose it is all related to wages etc,.

Re: Kabu

Yes well you were away at the beginning so it was bound to feel short. I know when you can't roll in the snow it is not so much fun. Feeling a bit sad?

Re: CCT

I hope you are right Naut. The hygienist is a pain she tips one back and looks and hooks at ones teeth, usually one gets a free tooth pick.

Re:Pat

Perhaps there was a late frost Pat one thing with the crows they fly off with the whole nut  I expect they drop them somewhere to crack the shells.

Re: Taps.

Yes it is funny we always searched for them as kids, very often being chased off by the lady of the cottage,

When I was a child, we always gathered walnuts, hulled them, cracked and picked them and mom put them in cookies and fudge and good things.  Now no one bothers.  Son #3 has several walnut trees, but only the squirrels go after the nuts.

Believe me, I can remember some terribly hot days as well as the bitterly cold ones! And perhaps those squirrels may like a bit of sponge with their walnuts. It couldn't hurt to ask . . .

My next door neighbor's walnut did not produce this year. There was

a bumper crop last year and the squirrels made messes all over the neighborhood with those nasty hulls that stain everything black... Between the new fence, which they cannot use as an elevated running path like they did the old wooden one, and no food, I don't think I'll be seeing so much of them this fall.

CCT

Well, today we had a beautiful summer day, and I don't believe we'll have much of a winter this year - not according to my own forecast! And what exactly does a hygienist do - does she come into the shower with you? At 68 quid she should...

Winter is so long here and this year Summer ws so short. One looks at the coats and jumpers hanging in the closets and it isn't exciting as it was five years ago though I will not admit such a thing in Australia.

You are right about how we remember those cold winter days more than those hot summer days. I find, too, that winter feels like it lasts longer than summer.

cct

sure wish i had those walnuts, they are so expensive here and yes, i only use them for baking.

it has always been my belief that we are never out of debt or truly retired, and now i am a living example of that, taking on 80,000 in debt and wondering how on earth i will repay it.  dont think i will get to the end unless i live to be 85. but who knows what else will happen, so i just take one day at a time, one minute at a time, and dont worry about the rest.
