this post brought back memories of our fair back home in kansas when i was growing up. we were a farming community, so most of our fair was showing farm animals and handicrafts. i always entered cooking and sewing since i belonged to 4-H for 10 years. i didnt do any canning till i was married. i had a box full of ribbons, and not to many years ago i tossed them. never went to the carnival that was always there with the fair because we could not afford the rides or the stalls.
i was a pretty good shot in my younger years, might have won myself a bear, lol.
and yes, that girl was smart and stood her ground, wonder if she has had a good life.

When we were little, the fair coming to town was a huge event. We'd be excited for days ahead. Bird always seem to win a prize; I think he was just so funny and agreeable it was the carnies' way of thanking him for having brightened their long hours. Of course, Bird would tell you it was his shooting talent...

I would imagine that girl either became a gun Moll or else a trader on the London Stock Exchange, LOL...

I suppose it is not the art of giving things away Pat. Even at country garden parties the big prize numbers are always withheld until a big enough take has been made.

She came from the right family Justi, The family used to go to the seaside and win
sacks of teddy bears from the slot machines that had little cranes to pick up prizes.

The state of Maryland had its fair the other week, around Labor Day. I did not get a chance to make it. There is always next year, as they say.

We have plenty of fairs nearby from time to time, but since my wife and I aren't really into 'crowds' any more, we very rarely go. And if there's a pig roast involved, my wife definitely wouldn't go ( she's a vegetarian and an animal lover, and those kinds of spectacles send her over the edge! ) . . .

I love a fair or a country show...The Gnomes had a great two day fair here this year. Or was it three days...I must have had too much moonshine I don't remember. I never won anything much at the stalls.

Faires and Fetes and Feasts...!
I've been watching a lot of MIDSOMER MURDERS lately--very engaging characters, and I always try to find which fellow in the pub is you... It seems these fairs are a constant element of English life. Under tarps, in the rain, the show must go on! I remember hearing of Ice Faires when the Thames froze over back in Elizabethan times.
My Universe blog is here... just click on my name to see the list.
Great shot of a beautiful flower!

That is an awesome memory. I am glad she stood for her rights many would not have. What a fun time you must have had at those carnivals.

One of the things you learn pretty fast at the carnival - it's all rigged
against you, and the winners are probably "shills" in league with the pitchman, who take their prize around back after their happy business has brought in a few 'rubes.' I love the photo of the flower with today's post, and the memories your words bring to mind.
