Naut
It isn't that I don't care it is that I am totally ignorant of all the ramifications if it goes either way. I did not know the Queen had any legal ramifications on government of either of the three countries. I love the romance associated with the Queen and the royal family going to stay periods of time in Scotland. Tell us more as this moves along. I am sure not everybody is as lacking as I in all this but some of us want to know!

Meaning no disrespect to anyone, but with everything else that's going on, this is one international news item that is so far on the back burner, it doesn't even register for me . . .

Well, it will be very interesting to see what they decide. As for me, I like the United decision myself, but I'm sure they don't care what I think.

I think this is a time in history when those who can stick trogether, should stick together. And the 'Yes' side preaching from a mosque, you say? That would be a definite NO.

I am always proud to be part of the Commonwealth Naut. we had a Governor General either brave or drunk enough once to sack the PM...it was a good job he did. ....
It was easy for me to come to Canada, so much the same, different but the same. Sort of like living in another part of Australia at times. i feel sad that scotland seems to need to hang onto the past ...hundreds of years ago ...they have never been expected to give up their heritage, their traditions. Why go backwards...but some people just need to, If they go their own way then I hope that means finacially, power wise ... in all ways.

I think it is a bad idea Naut, there will probably be quite an upheaval if this occurs.
There would bound to be a lot of aggro over financial problems and a small country untested might find it difficult to find a place in Europe. They should have done it twenty years ago probably when the North Sea oil came on stream and not sold it like we did to solve immediate problems. Some in England say a good job if they do Scots are in parliment voting for English affairs. Sadly I suspect the well off will vote no and the hopeful yes. In general though I think most here prefer the status quo.

I myself do not know enough to say. Like Ciel, though, my gut feel is that Scotland will make it work.

Scottish Independence
has been a bone gnawed by the Scots for centuries, and is the theme of legend and song. Even today it has a bit of Braveheart about it, and I am sure this is what fuels a lot of feeling fueling the Yes vote.
A friend of mine who is a lowland Scot told me the other day that he will vote against independence. His reason is that too many issues have not been answered. One of these is, What currency would Independent Scotland do business with? The EU is not admitting any new members just now... so, what? This has, as far as I've heard, remained unanswered.
My friend thinks there are other problems along those same lines.
An article I read last week that pretty fairly laid out both sides suggests that there are great advantages and disadvantages to either Yes or No. My thought is that whichever way it goes, the Scots will make it work.
