I honestly don't know if a half a case of wine is acceptable payment for pieces of someone's lawn, but the gesture was nice nonetheless. I never knew someone could be emotionally attached to their turf . . .

Neighborliness... You got the soil, you got rid of the unwanted wine, you saved the lady and her husband a lot of money, and Archie did the work, giving him something to complain about for weeks to come. I'd say you came out well, and everyone involved came out contented, and maybe some drunk, and some righteous. Neatly done!
