Re: Jimmy

I wouldn't doubt it, Naut, although 'tragedies' in many forms has been around for quite some time! Perhaps story tellers should be honest with children! Prepare them for adulthood, ya know? Hope the sun and the wind are still at your back . . .

Re: JimmyA

Potentially, Sir Wiley, potentially. However, since they're to be 'grim' fairy tales, all I might have to do is base a few of them on actual current events. In that case, it should be easy . . .

LOL! And the last one sounds a lot like the original Grimm's Tales; it's just that their publisher forced them to make changes to make their stories suitable for kds...

Sounds like a busy project these fairy tales

Re:

Well, TAPS, back in those days, gay simply meant extremely happy. If there weren't witches and ogres and giants, I'm sure many of those characters would be extremely happy! But today, entitling something as from "The Bother's Gay" would have a whole other meaning, and you probably wouldn't want to read any of their tales to your kids at bed time . . .

Re:

As am I, adnohr. However, I had to twist the notion a bit in order to create the 'grim' persona. But you know, there were a few Disney tales that didn't necessarily have a 'happy ending.' Just think "Old Yeller" and "The Yearling," for examples. Some might think that those particular tales were somewhat grim, especially the endings . . .

Re:

Thanks, Kabu. Glad everyone enjoys them. And believe it or not, when I was very young, I really thought those tales were titled that because they were actually 'grim' stories! I never acknowledged the Grimm Brothers as merely the writers. And yeah, with or without corns ( or cobs ) my feet sometimes hurt as well! What are ya gonna do? Ya can't keep your feet in hot water and salts all day . . . !

Re:

Something tells me, FSI, that it may describe a lot of people's feet today! Soaking them in Epsom salts helps those corns a little, but if they do reach that 'cob state,' you're in real trouble . . .

Re:

I have a feeling, C C T, that most people wouldn't want those fairy tale characters to have 'normal' names! I guess that's what gives them personality. But changing all of those names, even as a bit of satire, would be a monumental task indeed! If you'd like to give it a go, be my guest! And I think today, those same ladies would need to carry a pound or two to get the same end result that penny once did! By the way, Yogi Bear's 'partner-in-crime' was named Boo Boo. Don't lose any sleep if you can't retain that . . .

There couldn't have been much fun in the life of "The Brothers Grimm".  Maybe that's why there were so many witches, giants, ogres, etc. in their stories.  Maybe there should have been a book of tales by "The Brothers Gay".  (or maybe not...)

LOL - nah - I'll take Disney's fairy tales first, Jimmy. A big fan of happy ever after I am!!

Grim Fairy tales indeed....and sometimes one itty bitty corn in the wrong spot can feel like the whole cob by the end of the day.

Good jokes James. Real fun.

"Getting the whole cob," describes my mother's feet.

The Grimmer fairy tales I suggest. Now you will upset those among us who believe that fairies exist, I suppose you will say there is not a Yogi bear, but I have seen him and a little one, but I can't remember the little fellows name. Did you know that ladies had to always carry a penny lest they needed to spend one, it is now free. So a penny was worth a lot of twisting of legs once, although I did hear privately of course that some discreet ladies held the door open for the next visitor if there was a queue. Have you ever wondered why characters in Nursery Rhymes have such stupid names. I might start to give them normal names sea saw Margery Smith etc. Or you could do it before someone else thinks of the same plan.
