Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:

Sad to say, Kabu, a kitchen knife or a broom is no match for some of the types of weapons these cretins are now carrying! And forget the key locks! Someone made a billion dollars on those dead bolts . . .

Re: Re: Re: Re:

A very different country to the one I grew up in...of course now one is more careful but no one had a door key to lock the house properly. Well in the cities but certainly not in the country and a murder anywhere in Australia was huge news. So no one thought of arming themselves...a kitchen knife or a broom would do the job I suppose.

Re: Re: Re:

Many, many moons ago, Kabu, we didn't have 911 to call, or strong police forces to protect us. So, people needed to arm themselves just for any protection. We assume those days are over as we evolved and became more civilized. However, today, it appears we've slid somewhat backwards on that evolutionary scale, and now everyone feels compelled to carry guns again! It's scary and sad at the same time . . .

Re: Re:

There are differences in where you grew up. In Australia one never thought about people carrying guns. Only Kangaroo or rabbit or fox shooters ever used a rifle. No one carried a side arm...no quick draw magraw...so for me I cannot understand the need to protect oneself.

Re: JimmyA

Sounds good to me, Sir Wiley! And I guess one of the best ways to remain happily married is to avoid any of these restaurants in the first place! My wife is a vegetarian. How are the choices up there . . . ?

Re:

You might actually need to do that, TAPS, unless, as I think you're indicating, there's someone you want to be accidentally caught in a cross-fire shoot-out at some restaurant! But why put yourself in such danger? Hopefully, the Bonefish Grill is one of the 'smarter' franchises who doesn't allow guns in their restaurants . . .

I received two gift cards for Bonefish Grill for my BD a couple of weeks ago.  I haven't used them yet.  I think I'll check out their policy on gun carrying before I use them.  It might make a difference on who I decide to take with me for a nice meal.

Re:

Sorry, Carolyn. I try to keep them as brief as possible, but sometimes, there's much to be said on certain topics. No, I still haven't been able to post any pics ( yet ), but I'm trying. I hope your face came out wonderful, since it was something 'better' to do . . .

Re:

It truly is, C C T. And you're right. The average patron might also get extremely nervous seeing someone walk in carrying a spear, a mace, a sickle, a harpoon, a machete or a broadsword. Isn't a gun much, much worse . . . ?

Re:

Wild indeed, Bill! How good would your digestion be knowing that the guy behind you and the guy in front of you, who have been giving each other dirty looks all night, are both carrying guns? 'Take-out' services are going to blossom as a result . . .

Re: It really doesn't bother me

That's quite true, Bel. However, my main point of conjecture isn't actually with that 'law abiding citizen' as much as it is with some nut case who may be able to wrestle a gun from one of those law-abiding citizens and use it against someone just trying to have dinner! Just the possibility of several guns being on the premises of an eatery is just asking for trouble, in my opinion . . .

Re:

Thanks, Kabu. Of course, people will always weigh those two options: self-defense against a general feeling of safety. If all of those gun-advocates could find a way to absolutely guarantee that each and every citizen walking into a restaurant carrying a gun was 1000% responsible with their firearms, no one need worry. But since no one can absolutely guarantee that, what's the point? Put some children into a room with various pointed objects lying about, you don't think someone will get cut . . . ?

Re:

As most people, chuck, with any sense of decency or integrity would be! I don't care what anyone on the other side of the fence may think; these restaurants are just asking for trouble! Mark my words: first it was a rash of school shootings! Next on the menu . . . restaurant shootings! Believe me, I'm not wishing it on anybody! But, as sure as the sun will shine tomorrow, it's gonna happen . . .

Re: Jimmy

I don't think you really need to, Naut, in order to fully understand all the dangers involved! People like to 'child-proof' their homes by keeping those things deemed extremely dangerous to a child out of sight and locked away. But others leave drawers and cabinets completely open, just inviting trouble! That's what these eateries are doing, in my opinion. I don't care what the 'gun-toters' and advocates are saying! You're simply inviting danger in an arena that isn't known for danger, like a restaurant . . .

Re:

I honestly don't understand, FSI, how anybody could be! I wouldn't mind swimming in some lake once in a while, but once I learned there were alligators in there, guess what? I ain't swimming in that lake anymore, even if someone tried to convince me that the alligators were actually tame! I'm not much of a risk-taker . . .

No and I would not want anyone carrying bows and arrows either. Someone is bound to think up another gimick. Sad really.

It really doesn't bother me

The average citizen who is going to carry a gun either in open carry or CCW are law abiding citizens.

Realistically most criminals don't bother to get a permit and will conceal a weapon regardless of it being welcome or not.

Sounds to me and I admit that I am an outsider, Freedom has turned into anarchy. Does the fredom to protect oneself ....and I find that in my society one doesn't need a fire arm to do that...override the freedom to sit with one's family inan eatery in relative safety from a gun fight with bullets parting my hair.

good post.

I am 100% against carrying guns especially going to restaurants or anywhere in public places.

Jimmy

I like our Canadian gun laws - pretty tight all around, although the bad guys are packing, of course. The whole US gun scene is pretty scary, as far as I am concerned, at least seen from here, but then I really don't know enough about it to make a fully informed judgment...

I feel the same was as you do, Jimmy. I would not be comfortable frequenting those establishments either.
