- Go to Trash along the roadside is one thing, but this is getting ridiculous!
Re:
No it's not, Carolyn. I know most people might be somewhat ashamed to admit that various portions of their state might look like this, but it's a fact of life we must contend with from time to time. When the clean up crews are out there, the end results look marvelous, and all is well. But, within a week or two, these littering miscreants are at it again, and the roadsides are unsightly once more. It's a vicious cycle . . .

Re:
No argument here, Justi! The other thing too is that people took pride in their work back then as well! Today, many people ( not all, but many ) simply go through the motions each day, and then stand there on Thursdays or Fridays with their hands outstretched waiting for that paycheck that they barely earned! And I honestly don't recall ever reading or hearing about someone being arrested or fined for littering around here! That's not to say that it doesn't happen; we just don't hear about it! We wish it was better enforced . . .

Re:
Quite possible, Bill, but that might take a little research to determine for sure. I suppose that, once the car manufacturers learned of the money they can save by using plastics instead of metals, that was the end of that! We'll never see solid steel cars again . . .

Re:
Lucky you, adnohr. It would be nice if there weren't any trash on the sides of the roads here, but like I wrote, sometimes it's the amount of trash, and sometimes it's what the trash consists of that makes it look even worse! Perhaps some of our cousins from the Great White North can come down and show us Yanks how it's done . . .

Re:
Why am I not surprised, Kabu? Yes, we've seen the aftermath of certain crashes as well over the years, and there always seems to be at least one car involved ( if not several ) that looks as though someone had tossed a hand grenade into it! We keep seeing news reports about safety issues with current cars, while at the same time we see the stories about all of the recalls the various manufacturers have issued because of a faulty this or a faulty that! No, like I wrote, they just don't make 'em like they used to . . .

Re:
We have places like that as well, C C T, but like you said, sometimes it just comes down to pure laziness, coupled with a non-caring feeling! Some people have the attitude of "Oh, just dump that anywhere!" And those are the ones that make us all look bad, as well as our roadways! As I wrote, we have sanitation groups that try to keep up with all the litter, but sometimes it's overwhelming . . .

Re:
I know what you mean, lovelylady. But like my wife pointed out to me one day, it's one thing to lose a huge piece of your car, but it's another thing entirely to simply drive away and leave it there! Remember, we've seen whole bumpers with the license plates still on them! Pretty hard to deny that it's yours . . .

Re:
It is indeed, FSI. And now that I've pointed this out, guess what you're probably going to see lying on the side of the road someday soon! I just hope it's out of the way and no one will run over it . . .

Re: Jimmy
To be honest, Naut, and at least fair to my own state, as you travel north toward New York City, New Jersey's general environment seems to get worse ( why that actually is I couldn't say for certain ). But as you travel further south away from 'The City,' things ( like our roadsides ) improve considerably. My wife and I live almost dead center of the state, so I suppose we can be considered 'border people.' It would be nice if some of that 'Canadian cleanliness' could rub off on some of the inconsiderate people in this area! Perhaps some day . . .

Re:
I'm actually glad to hear it, shamasehar. Believe me, you don't want to see the things I have seen on the sides of the roads, whether they are pieces of cars or anything else! No, the cars of today are nowhere near as durable as the cars of 'yesterday' . . .

They make a lot of arrest here in our state. If you are caught littering you pay. People will turn them in too. About how the cars were made even 50 years ago. They were made of better goods and better workmanship. No drugs on the lines then. Drinking was a firing offense and the products were better.

not left on the side of the road James but in Australia in March this year my friend and i were both one car ahead of a crash...B OOO M!!!! being a pair of retired nurses, we turned around and went back sure someone would need onsite care...No Bu one car only had a bad dent while the car in the wrong was lying all over the road in big chinks just as you describe and with the engine dropped right out as well.
ps No one physically hurt, just shock.

Well Jimmy some folk are so lazy and some will do anything to save spending a few pounds. Probably scrappers would pick any metal up here, but a lot of tree branches get dumped along country roads. We have a place to take unwanted stuff free of charge. I know one man took a load, but a tyre was a chargeable item as it had to be recycled, so he kept the tyre and dumped it in the ditch on his way back.

I have yet to see entire segments of cars lying on the road. I am sure that one day, I see see one...It is amazing and scary how fast cars collapse these days.

I will tell you (though I really hate doing it) that I've always noticed a big difference between our Canadian highways and U.S. ones - ours are generally very clean...Down your way? Well...There are exceptions though. I found upstate NY and New England States highways virtually equal to ours in cleanliness - maybe our good example rubbed off on them, LOL... And about the cars - that's a whole 'nother chapter...

Well India is flooded with a great variety of cars since a couple of years and maybe they are not as strong and durable like the old cars but I have not come across the kind of sights you are talking about.
