Re:

Sometimes, Bill, their expressions can be almost human! Even with our cats, I think I can pretty much tell what they're feeling or thinking at any given moment. It's a 'connection' we all have . . .

Re:

Two things, C C T. First, like I wrote, my wife and I pretty much have our hands full now with our 'many' cats, although this little guy would have been greeted with open arms! But secondly, this particular friend lives fairly far away, and I just don't see him often enough be able to periodically 'check in' on this doggie. But if we did live close by, and I did find out this dog was still available, who knows . . . ?

On the sidewalk, one of this guy's dog looked at him so lovingly with his mouth open this morning Jimmy.

I expect you wanted him Jimmy, he wanted to join your pack. I think I would have gone back the following  week and see if he had been chosen, it would put my mind at rest. If he was still there I would wait another week. After a month I would have to have him.

Re:

I think I know, adnohr. Yes, not only would you have found it extremely difficult to tear yourself away from this little cutie, but you may have found it even more difficult to have left that store without him! Like I wrote, I can only hope that someone going there with the intention of bringing home a doggie was approached by this tiny bundle of fur in the same manner as I was. He would have found a home in a heartbeat . . .

Re:

It would seem, Kabu, that that is the mantra for anyone with a soft-spot for any animal: you can't save them all! I keep telling my wife that over and over! The best you can do is take very good care of the pet(s) you already have! Believe me, it's extremely rare that I find myself in that position, and those soulful eyes can tear your heart out! But something tells me that little guy is going to be okay . . .

Re:

I hope so too, FSI, I really do! This little dog couldn't have possibly been friendlier, and was definitely deserving of a good home! I believe that, anyone going there with the intention of bringing home a dog that day would have fallen in love with him immediately. I can't see why not . . .

Re: Jimmy

Having new 'intruders' is one thing, Naut, but you're right about seeing those animals in cages! My wife and I used to go to a pet food store near us from time to time just give at least some attention to a group of cats that were 'shelter rescues' awaiting possible adoption, but we just had to stop for the same reasons. We now have plenty of cats at home that require our full, undivided attention . . .

I guess I don't have to tell you what would have happened had that been me....

We were specifically warned the Mr Graysome would have to be an only child for he is a terror on paws when it comes to other cats and dogs.

That really does suit us but I have to keep away from those eyes and noses and cute furry things. I indulge myself when I go to Ottawa for they have snakes   but I don't go near the cats and dogs. I tell myself to take the best care of who owns us because I cannot rescue them all.

Oh, yeah, they can break your heart, especially when both human and pet make that connection. Hopefully, the dog will find a great home.

Jimmy

Yes, they can break your heart! That's why I avoid the animal section at the pet store like the plague - I don't want to see them, especially not caged! We can't handle more than one big rescue doggie, our Ben, and our cat Bubbles (who was a rescues as well) will absolutely not tolerate another one in the house...
