I feel that pitchers need to be pitch in at least a five man rotation in order to stay in shape. If they were out of shape, they would still be getting hurt.

Not necessarily. I don't think it's the number of starts as much as it is the number of pitches thrown during each start! Some pitchers can actually complete a game throwing about 110 to 120 pitches. Other pitchers struggle a bit more, and throw 100 pitches by the 5th or 6th inning! That's why the pitch count is so important. More starting pitchers also means less chances for wins. That's why Cy Young's record of 511 career wins will always be safe . . .
