Yes very good Jimmy. Perhaps it has a kick like a horse.     Well they are a very nasty little fly usually congregate on a warm yellow cow pat if the opportunity arises not the nicest thing to feel their proboscis entering your blood stream for drinkies.

Re:Rumor

I suppose not , I remember seeing an old chap once he was having difficulty in breathing

he told me that it was Mustard Gas in WW1. He used to sit outside his cottage in summer it was his worst time.

Re:

Yes FS it does seem hotter or kind of more burning than it once did. Still waiting for your poems, I suppose one day we will be surprised.

Re: jeansaw

I thought folk retired to Florida to enjoy the climate, I admire your self conditioning It must have taken a bit of gel to carry on without the cool air. I hope you use sun cream it seems we have to do things we did not dream of once. Sadly the flowers need the rain, but it will come.

Re: Bro

Well you won't get much sympathy from the Docs Bro if it is anything like it is here. Just keep taking the pills. Sun seems vicious this year I seem to remember nice sunny days, I suppose things change.

Re: Kabu

We might get the big downpour tonight. I must do the rain dance. Arthur cut my hair short today so my hat falls over my eyes. Do you ever wear a frog? Advice noted.

Re: Ciel

We did have a storm last night, but not much rain. I have never heard of wet wraps, but if does the trick, that's great. The flowers need rain it is a job to keep the soil moist, Annuals do not have the deeper root system, I am trying perennials sowing now to over-winter.Be happy. Thank you.

The flower is beautiful, and the poem has your magic in it, Wizard!

Do stay cool! I use jeansaw's method with a wet tea-towel.  And sometimes if the heat is really getting to me, I get my head wet, too.

Stay indoors and take care. That was quite a mindful train journey.🌹

we have slowed down because we were wearing ourselves out. Three hours of sweating in the garden is enough...yes water early and then again after the sun goes down and the garden will survive. Then try and sleep through the heat of the day.

cct

here in florida it gets very hot and humid, so usually through the months of july and august i hide in the house, that was when i had air conditioning.  never thought i would last the summer without air, but i guess or so they say, you eventually become conditioned to the climate and i must have because i am doing without the air.  living in a cooler climate you have become conditioned to the cooler climate so when it gets really hot you need to be very careful.

one trick i use is to put a frog around my neck, a frog is a cloth that when you wet it , it becomes cool and you put it around your neck and you stay nice and cool.  they sell them at home depot and lows  here in the states.

everything bites me, but i scratch for a day or two and its over.  guess i have becomed conditioned to bug bites too.

you flowers are so beautiful.

It is amazing just how hot outside it can get...An interesting conclusion that the speaker in the poem arrives at.

CCT...thank goodness for air conditioning..

With my breathing condition, I probably wouldn't survive without a/c...take care and watch yourself in that extreme heat...

posted by Rumor on July 17, 2014 at 1:47 PM | link to this | reply

People sometimes underestimate the power, and devastation, of extreme heat! It's probably a good idea for everyone to stay indoors ( not just the 'old fogies' ) until this heat wave passes. Why takes chances? And I've seen a crow fly, an eagle fly, a robin fly and a bluejay fly . . . but I don't think I've ever seen a horse fly!

I think Chiros have a foot fetish - and this one may be particularly fond of yours...And I did join you on your train ride for a bit, but then jumped off again - I decided to stick with our familiar Sun for a while longer...
