Geez, these pitchers today would never have survived the grueling schedules and demands of, say, 60 years ago, when there were no middle relievers or closers! Once you started a game, that was it; you were in for the duration, whether your arm was sore or not! I don't think expanding the roster will make too much of a difference. These pitchers had better learn to toughen up and stick it out better . . .

That may be something baseball could consider, but here is another option. Require all teams to raise the mound to fifteen inches. You did not have all of these arm injuries forty-some odd years ago despite pitchers pitching longer into games and four man rotations. The mounds were fifteen inches back then.
