I don't find them offensive. I find them sad . . .

i think myself that a lack of manners and caring for others feelings shows how greed and corruption etc. lead on to bigger self centered unconcern. for others or jealousy for others to covert one's neighbors belongings...oil...gold..diamonds...water...good productive land... even if that means the neighbor starves and their children are sent to work at age 6. So for me the rude middle finger the disgusting language that offends is a society that is on the path to bigger more horrible practices.

Probably because it is in our face and the other things we tend to forget. Danger is probably stronger than compassion, sad though it may be.

Pat

Well, these are matters that belong to different categories - 'cursewords' and 'middle fingers' are matters of 'manners and demeanor' in interpersonal relationships (and that I don't really find offensive, LOL); poverty, wars and corruption (not just corrupt governments) are 'offensive' (regrettable?) in an entirely different sense, belonging to categories understandable only in the context of collectivities. They are probably part of the 'human condition' from the time we first became 'Homo' (even at the pre-sapient stage) and learned to fashion tools...
