You set the stage perfectly.I could feel the force of the winds and the stormy sea.Well liberty is a very high stake to put in a gamble.This poem reminds me of an incident in Mahabharata,where Yudishtra lost everything (kingdom even his wife) while gambling with his cousins.

I think this could be made longer Shobana a real adventure it seems the Monarch of the Island gave in too easily. Perhaps one day you could work a bit of action into the poem,

 I know you do not like violence but no one gives up liberty easily.I can see your pirates creeping up the shores cutlasses glinting in the blazing sunshine.
