Once, on a trip to AZ at Christmas, my daughter and I switched drivers, midnight, middle of the West Texas Hills. No city lights. It was amazing. Just as you described it. Just like when we were kids.

I never get tired of looking at the stars.

See? You were meant to go out and witness such natural beauty! Sometimes at night I walk into my kitchen, and before I get the chance to pop on the light, I notice the magnificent moonbeam shining in through the window and onto the floor. The light stays out, while I quickly step outside into the breezeway and take a couple of minutes to soak in the dazzling light display the moon has provided for me. Better than anything on TV . . .

Isn't it a grand sight? Around here we have too much 'light pollution' even on clear nights; but I sometimes drive about ten miles to the north of us to do a little star-gazing...

Goodness I thought the sky shut down that early in the morning . Another theory disproved.
