That was a very clever idea, hanging those bags of straw around to fool that colony's queen! I've always had a healthy respect for . . . or a fear of, take your pick . . . wasps and bees, ever since I was drilled in the shoulder by an extremely large carpenter bee when I was about 3 years old. The pain was beyond belief, as I remember it to this day! Yes, I would have done all I could do to rid myself of a wasp's or hornet's nest too . . .

Re: Pat
I expect if folk were really hungry it would be the last thing on their minds Pat. Though I still don't like slugs in cabbage or caterpillars.

Generally they don't bother me if I just keep doing what I'm doing
it seems to be jumping and swatting they don't like. As for living on insects, we no doubt get a few bits in our processed foods - used to be common to find little things hatched out in flour or corn meal. We'd sift them out and use the flour anyway - waste not, want not. But these days people find anything natural like that in their cereal, there's a big hoo-hah and a lawsuit. City folk...

Re:
I have never seen a red wasp Justi. No I don't take any notice of wasps etc. I suppose a bee is more reluctant to sting as it loses a part of its body in the process. Yes I love sweet peas I must take a photo of the row when there are in full bloom.

Re:Naut
Yes better than going round with a rabbit's tail Naut an old gardeners trick. I use that to make fairies sometimes, I can tell you that now our resident Gnome lover is away.

I like wasps - they also catch flies, and I hate flies...And that old fellow with a greenhouse knew what he was doing - apparently bumblebees are better pollinators than honeybees...

How interesting. I never was afraid of wasp, bumblebees or any of those but we have a red wasp that I think lives underground and they appear to be rather aggressive. I love those flowers on the last post.
