Re: Jimmy
Is that how you saw the entire scenario, Naut? Hmmm . . . it seems almost fool-proof! Only one flaw in your theory though: so far, according to the police reports, he never actually 'sold' any of that bread to others. He was apparently simply 'dropping it off' at other places of business! You're not going to make any 'airline ticket money' that way! He may have been better off forgetting about the bread and just selling the truck! He probably would have found plenty of takers because he had one major selling point in his favor: who doesn't like the smell of freshly baked bread? Better than that 'new car smell' . . .

Re:
Perhaps, Bill. I just hope he didn't 'drop' any of that delicious bread on the ground somewhere! Steal it and redistribute it, but don't waste it! I think that's what he did . . .

Re:
Thanks, Justi. I just think that sometimes, the punishment doesn't fit the crime. Like I wrote, no one was injured, nothing was damaged, no weapons were involved, and I think his intentions were not necessarily theft, but perhaps an overwhelming feeling of generosity compelling him to carry out such an unusual crime! I say, give the guy the benefit of the doubt, and a second chance! Perhaps the bakery can actually hire the guy to do more deliveries! He's obviously pretty good at it! However, he would definitely need a uniform . . .

Re:
Well, C C T, sometimes certain aspects of our justice system do try to make amends according to the crime. For example, someone caught and convicted of running a dog-fighting ring ( deplorable, to say the least ) ends up being forced to work with animals in some capacity, to learn respect for their fellow creatures and make up for their terrible actions. But for this gentleman, giving back a bag of doughnuts may not be enough . . .
And I don't think he was dreaming. Sleepwalking, maybe! But dreaming? Probably not . . .

Re: jimmy
That's probably true, jean. I mean, no one was actually hurt, nothing was actually damaged, no weapons were involved, and a lot of people are getting full on loaves of freshly baked bread and rolls! They should all be this simple . . .

Re:
It will be interesting, FSI, to see how this one plays out. But something tells me that we may never know what actually happened to all that bread! I have a feeling not too many people would readily admit that some nut in his underwear had just dropped off loaves of free bread and rolls to them! I mean, I'd probably keep quite about it too . . .

Re:
Well, lovelylady, like I wrote, there's a possibility that it was the aroma of the freshly baked bread that somehow enticed him into perpetrating this unusual crime. But what I'm still trying to figure out, besides where all that bread ended up, is why he chose to do it in his underwear! He may have single-handedly set the delivery business back a few years . . .

Jimmy
Actually, I think he wanted to take a flight, but found that he didn't have enough money for a ticket. So he stole the truck to sell the bread to people in the street. At some point he realized that he wasn't wearing any pants, (he had been in too much of a hurry), but since he thought that would speed up the check-in at the airport he was okay with that. I think it was a pretty good plan all around, and so did he, obviously. But he shouldn't have been tailgating - that'll do you in every time! I do hope he learned his lesson, and will drive carefully the next time...

Jimmy you are such a big heart of compassion on all the mentally short changed. I do not mean this in a bad way for sure. I do not mean crazy but those who do such radical things and do not even believe they are doing it for bad reasons. You are a sweetheart.

Perhaps he was dreaming Jimmy. It does sound like he had some kind of mental upheaval. I agree he should be shown leniency. Perhaps he could be given a bag of dough-nuts.

That is a strange one there and one of the wackiest crimes I have ever heard of...It will be interesting to see what if anything develops further from this...I, too, am now wondering what happened to the bread.

I wonder what possessed him to steal the truck in the first place?
