Perhaps we hung on trees with then once when picking nuts and berries, or used them to string nets etc.

I have heard that about evolution eventually ridding us of the pink toe as well...As for me, I can a lot of mobility (or is that Toebility) with my pinky toes.

From what I've read over the years, Evolution may be ridding us of our pinky toes faster than we thought possible. If you'll notice, it is rather tiny, and seemingly insignificant. It may have helped your balance somewhat, but I think you would have been alright whether it was there or not. According to anthropologists, we'll probably be losing this toe in about 5 or 6 generations anyway! Won't that be interesting to tell our great-grandchildren of a time when humans had five toes? They'll think we were once freaks . . .
