funny how those memories are brought to mind, and i sometimes wonder the purpose. tea, drank alot of hot last winter and now we are into the iced doctored up with honey and lemon.
maybe why i feel so badly, have not had a real check up in years and when i do and get some medicine i come home and throw it away.....must be something in my past and i guess i know what it is.

As far as 'breakfast beverages' are concerned, it's coffee for me or nothing. My wife likes hot tea, but I prefer it cold, or 'iced.' A little lemon, a little sugar . . . wonderful on a hot summer's day!

Not many poor they rely on benefits. A lot is spent on scratch cards and ciggies. It is slowly changing though because there aint the money in the kitty. Well my Mum was in service as you may remember me saying 1 dough cake a fortnight, but they were used to being hungry.

Re: CTT

Well you did show decorum Naut most would have just picked the bag out with finger and thumb. I hope the biscuits were plentiful. I did wonder if I should write to the firm that supplies the tea bags I use and suggest they make a slimmer version for those who like week tea.

I remember visting an elderly couple many years ago, and they offered me a cup of tea with a tea bag floating in it. After a bit I pulled the bag out by its string and put it on my saucer. They both looked aghast, and finally the old lady said, "Would you mind passing it along?"...

Everything is so expensive in the UK...I think that there is probably still a lot of poverty. I discovered when i was researching for the book that the servants only ever got the tea leaves reused after the family had finished with them. I never went hungry in my life...A bit like my Chipmunks.

Re: Pat...
Pat my Dad's cousin was the first boy to win a scholarship in the town. He went to Oxford and eventually became a Don. I know it took quite a lot of money although he may have had a grant. High tea I bet you were on your best behavior. I just thought Arthur went to Oxford and has told me about the times he sat at High Table.

Are we allowed two cups? That just made me so sad...
I had a Prof. once, Ed Graham his name was, who was "blessed" by Polio as a child and
thus became eligible for Social Security disability and scholarship money to support
his college education. He was left with a limp but his mind was sharp, he won a
scholarship to Oxford and became a Shakespeare scholar. He invited his students to a
high tea once a semester - provided the class average was high enough.
