Funny how little remarks bring back memories.

One of my aunts visited, she was an elderly spinster.

I think she was staying for a few days. We kids were having tea

and she  was with us . She had a cup of tea and then asked,

'are we allowed two cups.' I seem to remember saying

'have as many as you want.' When we visited her we always took a flask

and she had a cupful out of that. I suppose it was what poverty did

to one in childhood.

She said she fed the tall geraniums in the window on tea. I bet it was

more like strong water.

Another thing I hated was cold tea, workmen took it in a bottle

Worse still tea sops, makes me shiver, I used to watch a boy

eat this as I waited to take him to school.

We had a nice lunch today turkey not a whole one just a

breast I think I never looked.

Arthur had arranged it artistically on a plate with gravy,

tiny new carrots crispy young cabbage and new potatoes

all grown inside in large pots. Reminds me I planted two rows

of peas I shall have to ,watch that the mice do not start eating them.

Well I'll let them have a few tonight as a treat, I can't be bothered

to tread through the mud tonight. Keep taking the pills, I usually

fill my pill boxes up every Sunday I did notice today that I forgot to

take any at all on Wednesday.  I told Archie to get me a few canes from

the Garden shop he came back with 14 . How much I asked

£10 he said, a good job they were as thick as broomsticks.

Re: Re: Re: Kabu

Pot no way Kabu Gold blend teabags. I have drunk too many cups of stewed tea, it makes one feel queasy after a while. Of course to refuse would have been meant one would have been thought strange.

Re: Re: Kabu

No No you have it all wrong. Mother would scoop up what she could in buckets and water the garden with it.

Tea drinking old chap is a serious business. Do you turn the pot three times before pouring!!!

Re: adnohr

A marvelous invention. Well  I claim to be the first to think of it. Have a bath and then

well wait until nature calls and then dip your plastic bucket into the bath it will fill with water. One then tips the water down the toilet, thus saving a gallon or two with one action. Warning do not use greasy washing up water as it will make the toilet hard to clean. They think we oldies can't work things out ha, ha,

Who was it said that people living in desert areas were astounded that we waste fresh water to flush our toilets? I agree - think something should be set up to maybe recycle bath water for that purpose. Amusing poem, CCT...astute advice there!

Re: Pat

About the same as most Pat dabbed with a warm bit of wet flannel. My great aunt never took a bath she said it robbed the skin of natural oils she used the flannel technique in summer as well/

I find these posts about water conservation and gardening so useful

and interesting. They always set me thinking about things remembered. For instance, I remember Aunt Ella had a galvanized 50-gallon tank mounted on her roof. In that desert country, the heat of the sun warmed the bathwater. I don't know what they did in winter.

Re: Kabu

Yes I expect you made tea with the bath water afterwards Kabu. If the Kangaroos were giving milk . We had to use pigeon's milk or hedgehog's but I preferred condensed personally. And don't keep getting that little frock dirty just water the tomato plant you forgot it yesterday.

CTT

I've heard that there are still those who have an aversion to water - maybe that's why the expression 'the great unwashed' has yet some currency, LOL...And your poem is a welcome cautionary tale, LOL...

Rub a dub dub three men in a tub....sounds a but suspect to me...we kids always had our bath first, then Mother then Dad...water was stored from the roof into tanks and was very scarce by Summer.
