That's all true. My 80 year-old mother lives with my older sister in Texas, a thousand miles from me. But, I call her at least once a week, and it doesn't matter what we actually talk about. We both enjoy these conversations. However, my three brothers and younger sister seem to forget about mom most of the time. There's no actual estrangement; it could probably be chalked up to sheer laziness and forgetfulness! I wish others would call her more often . . .
