yes we are becoming a nation of mealy mouthed people......i prefer straight talk.  as my grandmother use to say call a spade a spade....and she was not referring to black people. but to the fact if it is a heart, a club, diamond or spade call it what it is.

i was listening to a seventies song today on the radio and knowing the words i was singing along and when they came to the word fagot, it was not there.  but the rest of the song went along without it and i thought they must have had to delete that word so they could play it.  was ok in the 70's, my how far we have come.

perhaps instead of eliminating those "buzz words"  they should concentrate on eliminating what is the source of them...then they would be obsolete words and phrases in the organization

Nautikos

I only worked for a company once wih a crooked union running it, tried to just get out of it but government rules prevented me from becoming non-union. All of the auto industry has been run on fear of union power. Governments blackmailed to use the peoples money to bail out the poorly operated companies. Union membership overpaid to produce automobiles to kill the folks the cars are being produced for. Sick system.

This kind of takes me back to the scandals that hit the fan over the Ford Pinto with its misplaced and exploding gas tank. Something about acceptable risk and better for the company's bottom line to play the odds and pay off anybody who decides to sue.

I totally agree with what you say and I feel Unions had and have a lot to do with this. A few years (three or so) a study was done by a News reporter who knew many auto line workers were going to lunch in parks etc., and smoking pot and drinking boldly. Photographs were taken and they were turned in within a few days the union had them back on their jobs and threatened to take legal action against the News Group. Big, really big corporations and Union together and it is a soup of a nasty flavor.

either make the language bland or the description so long, it is then abreviated and looses all meaning. Take PTSD.....oncec called shell shock...became combat stress reaction became PTSD. which all waters down what is a horrific chronic state. Chronic being the saddest part....

I don't much like Multinationals. No one knows who owns what and sepcially in the grocery lines, an old favorite will jsut disappear. Not a big seller??? throw it out. I did like small towns with local stores and where small people could do really well with hard work.

It is a shame what has happened to language. This memo coming to light illustrates that. I wish the language police would go away.
