Re: Re: Re:

Well, Kabu, there's no doubt about that. It should not have happened! And I'm actually somewhat surprised that you're finished already, although I said that many people have also told me that, once they got going, they couldn't put it down either! And at least now you understand some of my earlier comments about my artistic abilities, the pain my hand, and why I can no longer paint or draw. If you have any other questions or points of interest to be cleared up, I'd be happy to address them. Years ago it was very difficult to discuss. But now, the bulk of the mental anguish has subsided, and I don't mind talking about it . . .

Re: Jimmy

Thanks, Justi. I'm not entirely sure what you're referring to as far as the name and cover, and I also don't know how much you've actually read thus far, but the title is based on my eventual 'charge' ( Hindering Apprehension ) and the image is supposed to represent me walking into a nightmare, which it was! "That guy" is still in prison, and probably will be for life. And although it was 30 years ago, I'm still 'hurting' from it too, in many ways. But we can discuss it a little more when you're finished. I'm sure there will be a few questions afterward. There usually are . . .

Jimmy

This comment is about your book. My heart is hurting and I have read little so far I have to take it a dab at a time. Oh my, my! I believe it needs a new name and cover! So far my heart hurts for you and I want to tell you very near the front "enough already". That guy is, of course, walking danger. Be blessed. I will read it daily a bit at a time. It is a complusive read!

Re:

Actually, Bill, that was somewhat confusing too. The digits they pesented were from my credit card, and not my debit card. Perhaps it's just a universal way of saying 'charge.' Either way, I'm glad I'm in the clear of this one . . .

Re: JimmyA

Thanks, Sir Wiley. I did get my credit card statement recently, and so far it seems 'unscathed.' But canceling it and starting fresh may not be a bad idea. This will be my third in about 5 years! Is nothing safe anymore . . . ?

Re:

Actually, Kabu, this is the first time I had been taken in by one of these 'checked boxes!' I never knew these things were even there! I guess I've been pretty lucky so far; this was my first dealings with any of them. And you have a review already? I know you couldn't possibly be done with my book yet! But, if that's how you feel so far, wait until the story really gets going . . .

Re:

They do indeed, TAPS. Yes, ordering on-line is extremely easy and convenient, but, as we all know now, extremely dangerous! But at least now you're armed with a little more knowledge about what to look for, and what to avoid! Analyze those various pages well, and be careful . . .

Re:

It is a shame sometimes, C C T, that the only way to 'order' things is to use our credit cards on-line, but then they become so vulnerable! I've already had mine compromised twice in the last 5 years. A real pain in the butt! And I'm glad you finally got my dad's 'special meal' tale resolved, and you'll be very happy to know that, no, he did not go by helicopter. Instead, he fired up his hot air balloon and . . . just kidding, just kidding!

Re:

Happy to be of service, FSI. And yes, from now on, do be careful, and read every inch of those pages from top to bottom! Who knows what other 'hidden devices' some of these companies will throw at you . . .

Re: Jimmy

I believe it, Naut. Some of these companies will do amazing and unscrupulous things to get you 'on their hook,' and then once you're on, it's a nightmare to 'wriggle free.' I have a feeling that many people just eventually give up and reside themselves to the fact that they're now going to receive products that they never asked for! What a system . . .

Re:

They do indeed, Justi. No matter how diligent and careful we try to be, there's always that one that seem to get by you! But, live and learn, as they say! Now I know to be 'extra careful' when ordering anything . . .

Re: JimmyA

I usually try to be, Bill, but sometimes things like this can sneak up on you! Just one more thing for me to be on the constant look-out for  . . .

Cancel  that credit card,  advise the bank of this attempted fraud, advise the fraud squad in your state or town, ad good for being so observant.

It makes me not want to order anything at all by Internet, and yet it is so convenient and I hate to go out shopping.  They have me over a barrel.

Some firms also hold your Card number unless you un-tick the box Jimmy. They usually show the last four digits I like to buy through Pay Pal or Amazon or by Mastercard. Once I had three large bags of motor cycle parts delivered. It was to test if my card was active. Anything unusual now is queried  by the Bank. Thank you for setting my addled mind at rest I went back and read that blog that I referred to again and more remarkable, your Dad ran to the supermarket to get your treat. I hope I did not get it wrong this time.Don't say he went by helicopter.

Thanks for bringing to this light. I do some online shopping, so from now on, I will be on the lookout for any hidden membership scams.

Jimmy

Thanks for the heads-up! Some years ago I had a similar experience - I had ordered a sample of something without reading all the fine print, only to find out that I had signed up for a monthly shipment of the stuff (some kind of special nuitrition pills), and it was huge hassle to get that canceled...
