- Go to SO, ARE YOU A DEVIANT, OR JUST MENTALLY DISORDERED?
once upon a time i thought of becoming a psychologist...i only needed one more year of classes but the clincher was i had to do a one year internship without working! i had 4 children and bills to pay so i let that dream go... bonus is i am here writing my heart out...my true joy...so my lemons became lemonade!

I truly enjoyed your take on this. This was my major back in the '50s. Can you imagine how totally fun a modern day take is. I must say that a lot of our ministry work is helped by some knowings from so long ago. We do jail, drug-rehab and elderly work and they have such short needs that are textbook clear but the lay person is not allowed to touch. Life goes on. Good piece thanks.

I suppose no two humans are alike, like snowflakes perhaps, and no two mental disorders are alike, as they may affect people differently. Psychology may be interesting, but I'm not sure if I would want to 'study' it in depth, nor do I think I would be able to ascertain people's emotional problems and phobias regularly, as some psychiatrists get paid to do. That's got to be a tough field to 'master' . . .

Re: How the mind works,
Ciel, yes I agree. I have a lot more respect than before about what doctors have to go through. I think my daughter might have been wise to pass up med school. But we'll never know, right?

How the mind works,
normally and abnormally, is fascinating. Understanding the basics of how it works 'right' really helps to see what it is that goes 'wrong.'
