Re:
I've heard other people do that as well, Against. They'll take an unusual-sounded foreign word and twist it a bit to make a 'new' word that can mean anything they want it to mean! It's great for when you want to say something secretive to a friend or colleague in front of others that you know they'll have no idea what you're talking about . . .

So far even better, adnohr! My Blueshirts are really giving those Penguins a run for their money! And now we're headed back to Pittsburgh for a Game 7! Even if they lose, they have nothing to be ashamed of. Taking an excellent team like the Penguins to a game seven is quite an accomplishment! Going to the Conference Finals would be even better of course, but I tend never to get my hopes up, just in case . . .

That's okay, C C T. At least now I know what happened to my page count! It jumped from 7,782 to almost 8,100 overnight! Apparently it was you searching through all those old postings! I'm sorry you could find what you were looking for. Perhaps one day . . .

Re: Re: Re: jIMMY
I'm not really sure, C C T. I did post one story where in my dad once made a 'special' New Year's Eve sandwich for me consisting of hot pastrami and swiss cheese because I really didn't care for the homemade pierogies everyone else was eating. But there was still no bicycle involved! You have a real mystery on your hands . . .

My friend and I developed a nonsense word, but instead of deriving from an actress's name we developed it from bastardizing the German language: GutenGroef.

Jimmy I have skimmed through everyone of your blogs that are retained on Bloggit.I could not find any reference to to my suggestion. Perhaps I imagined it or it
was someone else. I might crack it one day. I'm sure the Dad had a bicycle. Sorry.

Re: Re: jIMMY
I could have sworn it was you. Your dad asked if you were looking forward to your lunch and you said not really, So he went straight away up to the town and came back with something special that you liked. Perhaps he did not cycle I might have imagined that bit. Who else could it have been?

Re:
Apparently, C C T, Capucine was a flower of sorts! A rare beauty who did take her name from an actual flower! And as wonderful a man and father as my dad was, I don't recall him ever riding a bicycle anywhere! And treats before dinner? Bite your tongue! Special meals are one thing, but remember, you can't have any pudding 'til you eat your meat . . .

Re:
I believe she may have been, Justi. It could have been a combination of her beauty and talents, along with her unusual name. Sometimes when my dad needed a 'goof' name to throw out during a conversation, he would usually use either Louie Prima and/or Keely Smith, who, I later found out, were a married singing team from the '40's and '50's! Gee, the stuff dad would come up with . . .

Re: JimmyA
Many of us were, Sir Wiley. I personally don't believe that Peter Sellers was credited enough as a comedic actor during his lifetime. If you really want to see Sellers at his absolute best, check out a very obscure, and very funny, movie he made ( also helmed by Pink Panther director Blake Edwards ) called "The Party." Trust me . . .

Re: Jimmy
I have a feeling he may have, Naut! He always used that word humorously, perhaps to throw off any suspicions. Besides, it never sounded like someone's name, so I guess he felt he was safe! But now that it's been revealed . . .

Re:
There are indeed, Annicita. Whether or not my dad saw this actual movie is probably irrelevant. I'm sure he came across at least one of her movies at some point! According to her bio, she was considered a 'major European beauty' during the '40's and '50's, and was a close friend of Brigitte Bardot, another classical beauty. Perhaps my dad did have a slight crush on her! Well, we'll just keep that a secret for now . . .

Re:
I get it, FSI! My wife and I like to do that sometimes as well; take a relatively obscure but established word and twist it a bit! Sometimes it makes sense to others, sometimes it doesn't. That's okay. We know what we mean . . .

Re:
I believe, Kabu, that I may have seen you throw that into one or two of your blogs over the years, usually when you were mentioning either your rock garden or your wonderful world of gnomes. I guess everyone has obscure words or phrases they use from time to time to 'fill in the gaps' of certain conversations! I know I do! Hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day . . .

Re:
In what way, dsm tchr? To see who can come up with the oddest or cleverest nonsense word? Believe it or not, years ago there was actually a board game called Balderdash, but the challenge wasn't to come up with those words. A list of actual, very obscure words were provided, and the contest was to come up with definitions for them! A lot of fun for relatively creative minds . . .

Perhaps he had a secret crush on her Jimmy . Quite harmless like being fond of a flower.
He had some nice little traits I remember him cycling up to the shop to get you a treat as you were not looking forward to a special meal.

maybe because she had one word name instead of the normal 2...maybe because she was the only actress in the credits....maybe he thought she was beautiful...so many possiblities!

That is interesting how he used that "nonsense" word and really neat how you were able to figure it out.
Harry James often says, "Gee my knee," which he used to exclaim. A friend and I were wondering how that came to be. My dad said, "That's how he pronounces jiminy."

The one that baffled me when I was a child ...once asked the workman what he was building ...he told me it was a Wigwam for a gooses bridle. I liked it so much I still use it when I don't want to explain what I am making.
