Re:

Thanks so much, Justi. Like I said, it was extremely difficult to write, and I guess I could consider it a sort of 'moral victory' just to get it all down on paper. I hope you enjoy it, and keep in mind, this is a true story . . .

Being followed by a kangaroo is one thing, but a bus? You may have bigger problems than you think . . . !

I will have to check out the Hindering! Good for you for having written it, that in and of itself is a success.

So, for those of you who are interested . . .

My book is called "The Hindering," by James Alexander ( now you know where the 'A' comes from in JimmyA ) and is a true story of the most horrific time of my life! It is available through Amazon or Barnes & Noble, or directly from my publisher, Outskirts Press. I'm sorry it's not available as an e-book, but I believe almost everyone here has already expressed their fondness of holding an actual book in their hands as opposed to a small computer.

Pick up a copy today. You won't be disappointed! Thanks!

Re:

Believe it or not, Annicita, I have tried many of those things already. My book is already available on Amazon ( and Barnes & Noble ). I would love to build my own website, but as always, time is the commodity. Although I'm not on Facebook, my wife is, and I never thought to use it as a channel to promote my book. I do have business cards scattered all over, and hand them out as often as I can, but I'm not sure if I would want to go the t-shirt route, although it does sound like it may draw in a few more readers. I may look into linkedin and see what that does. Thanks for the tips . . .

Re: Jimmy

Well, Naut, it doesn't surprise me that such a book would be greeted with open arms by such a people, and it also didn't surprise me that you knew that! I wonder what the final sales tally for Mein Kampf is now . . .

Re: JimmyA

So I guess, Sir Wiley, zat ze German peoples were just in desperate need of kindling, eh? Well, if I remember my history, they were already burning books by the bushel anyway in those town square bonfires! I guess these copies were needed for the home fireplaces! I wonder how well they burned . . .

Re: jimmy

Everyone has different tastes, jean, and that includes books, movies and TV shows. I think one of the differences may have been the fact that there probably weren't as many writers and authors back then as there are now! Besides, Hitler's book was politically driven, and Germany was in such a state at that time that people may have looked upon it as a source of inspiration. Of course, we all know now what it eventually lead to . . .

Re: JimmyA

Apparently not, Bill, and they paid dearly for it later! I still think that selling 10,000 copies is pretty substantial for a book, any book . . .

Re:

So you're off and running, eh, Kabu? Well, 4 could turn into 40, and then into 400! It has to start somewhere! Hey, ya never know! And why is that kangaroo staring at me? I didn't bother her Joey . . .

Re:

Thanks, lovelylady. I myself have never had the opportunity to read Mein Kampf, and I'm not entirely sure I would want to, except perhaps from a historical point of view. For the times, it may have been a fascinating read for the German people. But, as they say, hindsight is always 20/20 . . .

Re:

Me too, FSI! I'm not sure how certain people calculate certain numbers, and I'm sure things were a lot different back then! But it still sounds incredible to me that 10,000 copies of any published work would considered a 'flop!' I guess I'll just have to keep plugging away . . .

Re:

Thanks for the response, dsm tchr. No, I haven't read Stuart Neville's Ratlines, although I have heard of it. My current list of 'books I'd like to read' is ridiculously long now! I understand the concept behind Mein Kampf, and I'm sure, at that point in history of 1920's Germany, many people would have been stuck making such choices and descisions, and were looking for someone, anyone, to lead them out of their post-WW I depression. However, Hitler was not 'my' hero by any stretch of the imagination! He was a misguided, evil megalomaniac who started out doing well by the German people, but as we now know, went extremely too far with his various ambitions! I still like my story better, and would love for you to read it . . .

have you thought of selling on amazon.com?  also there are local distributors....send them a copy and see if they would be interested in carrying it, start a linkedin profile which is free and put your books that you published on it, fan page on fb (I volunteer to be the first), build your own website (there are many sources out there to do that) and print business cards as writer with titles of your books on it, print t shirts that say "Have you read......" and give to family and friends to start a buzz

I saw a story in a magazine where a guy rented out a little kiosk in the malls during the holidays to sell his book...I don't remember how many copies he sold but it was a lot...

Wel, for the time it probably was a flop! But did you know that Mein Kampf was translated into Arabic and is a big success in the Middle East?

i guess satan sells, there are so many horror movies and everything else is murder movies or tv shows, it must sell.  as for me i do like my walking dead, but to much slice and dice is not usually my thing...

i would rather come read on blogit than watch tv.  the last movie i went to was transsendance.  with morgan freeman and johnny depp, and i enjoyed it, not much fighting and no sex, but an interesting plot, artificial intelligence.

I read parts of MEIN KAMPF in school Jimmy, and I have to say, I wouldn't have bought it, either.  I'd much rather read yours!

I did not know that Mein Kampf was considered a flop at the time...I imagine that there are a lot of authors out there with that knowledge feeling the same way as you...I would be happy if anything art of mine had 10,000 buying it.

JimmyA, IDK or don't remember the reference. It had to have been a month ie e a use I haven't read a book of Fiction on in months. But the man was stating that people will be more conditioned by relieving a threat than by a reward. It went something like, would you rather earn ten thousand dollars by (something really gross concerning live maggots)? Most would have to say no. But if someone took your last ten thousand dollars...and would only return it if you (Maggies again).

That's the kind of thinking that your hero Heir Hitler practiced. You should count your blessings. Btw, I'd like to see your book. I will buy one on payday. Seriously. Ps. Have you read RATLINES?
