I saw this statistic in a book - 1 in 5 children and teens have symptoms of a mental disorder. 1 in 10 will need to have mental illness treated in some way. And expected to rise 50% by next decade.

Re: Re: Re: dsm_tchr
Taps, thanks for being understanding. I am thinking of your question in a different way now. There are normal people everywhere whose lifestyle is not impacted by the abandonment melange. And if they do not suffer from depression then they do not need to trouble themselves with any of this excepting for loved ones or friends and neighbors. But you know the stats on.mental illness. One in three families?

Re: Re: dsm_tchr

I did not mean to disparage or belittle your situation and history in any way.  Like I say I have worked with so many with those diagnosis as a psychiatric nurse, and have known so many in my private life who have had terrible life-long problems, that sometimes it seems to me almost hopeless.  But, there is always hope.

Re:
TAPS, your question sound similar to those who say, well I was there and it wasn't that bad. Or others who say it could've been worse. Or who call you ungrateful, spoiled, or negative. We who survived Childhood are all grateful for the love and protection we received from parents, siblings foster parents etc. But do not block me from purging myself of those little segments of time in which neglect, verbal lashings, racism, incest, being locked in a closet, or other moments of awkwardness have filled us with bad feelings, please. These are not judgments. And I am Sorry that they feel so uncomfortable and close to home.
