Are you going to send him some sounds of nature? Actually, it kind of sounds like fun.

You're thinking of harvesting things when we haven't even sown yet? What blessed part of the Earth do you inhabit?

Re: kabu
type in purdue university nature sounds and then start recording your sounds and send them in, some day maybe children will listen to your sounds of what the world use to sound like.

Re: jimmy
just type in purdue university nature sounds and it will give you all the info, i think i will buy a recorder and start sending in sounds.....exactly why they are doing this is that the sounds are disappearing and will be gone forever.

Re: cct
thanks for the tomato advice, i dont think i will use the slug pellets, but will try milk and beer as i have both in house. hope i get to eat my pea before the sparrows get them, i am surprised i still have a garden with the bunnies and deer around....but it might help that there is a light on in the garden all night.

last night for the first time when I opened the bedroom window going to bed...even when it is mid winter and 45 below I open the bedroom window a little for fresh air...I heard the frogs mating calls from down in the hollow. My face was just one big smile. This place is a tiny refuge for animals, yes bugs too and of course birds.

Not really sure about those bugs. Perhaps they hide themselves underground when they suspect a human is coming! And I too have read about the 'disappearing sounds' from various forests and wooded areas. Once they're gone, they're gone forever too. It would be good to have recordings of them . . .

I think it is snails the little devils will travel and hide during the day slugs are as bad. As Ciel said a tray of milk will eventually coy them into have a drink and drown but it don't half stink, Slug pellets if birds can't get to them but pick up any dead snails or the birds might take them. Just pick out the side shoots on your tomato plants unless they are bush type which one lets grow normally. Feed the tomato plants as the fruits swell although if they are outside in the garden it is not so vital. A bit of a job to grow peas here the sparrows take them, but OK under nets.

Some bugs hide under the soil in the daytime and come out at night.
If you spread some vaseline around the stems, at ground level and a few inches on up, that might help, if those bugs are the problem.
For slugs, a bowl of beer works, and they die happy.
